| slcraft's Full Review: 2004 BMW 325 |
They say that once you have driven a BMW, it is impossible to drive other cars and I would say that is true. Having owned BMW's almost exclusively for most of my adult life to include various 3, 5 and X models, I feel that my knowledge of the BMW brand is very strong.
The 325i, as the entry level Bimmer, provides everything BMW is famous for without all the techno gimmickry that has found its way into the higher end models of all Euro manufacturers.
My "stripped" 325i is a lease in basic black with tan "tex" upholstery. My only options were automatic ( I drive 99% in the city) and heated seats ( once you have them you will never go without them). With some wheeling and dealing I was able to purchase this car for about the same as a loaded honda, toyota, acura and many American "luxury cars". People think BMWs are expensive, but they often run great lease incentives and have a second to none "CPO - Certified Pre Owned" program.
BMW has added a lot of previously optional equipment to the 3 series as it nears the end of its production run. Useful items such as fog lights, CD player, glass moonroof, stability and slip control, rain sensing wipers and 16 inch wheels are now standard. My 1999 323i made you pay for these items as extra. I think I paid around 28,000 for this car. Yes, it lacks power seats and leather, but I don't miss them at all.
I challenge anyone who appreciates intelligent design, build/material quality, handling, and overall "control", and resale value, accompanied with that special something infused in all products BMW, to buy something else once they have spent time in a 3 series, or any other BMW! Throw in free maintenance and a loaner car and it is hard to buy "sterile" Japanese products.
