NB are making a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

The Bottom Line Shut up and run.

Errr....HELLO EPINIONS....its about time that you added the NB 829 to your New Balance product list, the shoe has only been on the market for over a year.

The New Balance 820 series of shoes have for a long time been among the market leaders for lightweight high mileage trainers for neutral runners. Only Asics with the DS Trainer have been able to match these shoes for either quality, longevity or popularity. Quite simply the 820 series have been the best in their niche for a looooong time; that is until the 828 hit the market.

I have owned several pairs of 825s, 826s, 827s, one pair of 828s and I'm now on my second pair of 829s. Without a doubt the 828s are the dogs of the bunch. How New Balance managed to completely destroy the 827s, perhaps the best lightweight trainer ever, remains a mystery, but it appears they have redeemed themselves with the latest incarnation of this shoe, the 829.

With the 829 New Balance have obviously listened to the loud wails of disapproval from their customers and gone back to the genesis of this shoe range. Its lighter than the 828, its got a much better midsole than the 828, and it gives a much more comfortable ride than the clunky 828s. They have incorporated the successful "stability web" from the 827 and with added Adiprene (New Balance's trade marked cushioning foam) in the heel the 829s have the cushioning of a much heavier shoe.

Its unfortunate that the 829 is the ugliest shoe on the market, but if you're serious about your running aesthetics are low on your list of concerns.

Bravo to New Balance for having the gumption to admit that they messed up a good shoe, and congratulations on fixing it. Wearing the 829s is like having an old friend back again and running is just more fun now.

One more thing about New Balance. If you are a "conscientious" shopper you will be glad to know that this model is made 100% in the United States, by Americans. None of the 12 year old Vietmnamese labor that put together Nikes for $2 a week.
