Tad William's "Otherland" series.

The Bottom Line The best science fiction series of the late '90s and early '00s.
This series is important because it asks many of most important questions of our day. First and foremost, I believe is that age old question: "what is real and what is reality?" Is an advanced cyber-reality any less real than our own? Does man have a soul that can be translated permanently into a cyberworld where it could live forever? These novels are filled with interesting moral and philosophical problems that we should all be asking ourselves. The writing in these novels is superb; the characterization, top-notch. You'll get to really know and begin to care about each of the characters ( the good guys and the bad guys.) Williams takes us on a journey with the protagonists through some of the wildest worlds you can imagine. I feel that when most of today's "fluff" science-fiction series are long forgotten this one will still be on the shelves inviting new readers to explore the exiting worlds of "Otherland."
