BarBri Law Review
Aug 02 '01
The Bottom Line BarBri the number one choice for Law School Review to pass the Bar and Baby Bar.
As a first year Law student that is attending a part-time school I will be required to take the Baby Bar by next June. This is the most feared test besides the Bar that any Law student will face, but I feel like I have found the edge. No, not the edge of the cliff I will jump off, but the study edge to help me pass. I have after much research decided to sign up for the BarBri Review. This is not a cheap choice by any means...I will pay $2500 for this course but I also should be able to pass the test the first time if I do the work. That is the key I will have to do the work. Just paying for the course won't do it. I know that might sound like a dumb thing to say, but trust me I have met a wide range of Law students so far.
I did a lot of research, I checked into a lot of review courses that are offered and I finally came back to BarBri. The final point that made up my mind was if the majority of Law students use it then I need to be in that majority. BarBri stays current with how and what will be on the test. It also helps to know that the day I walk into that exam at least 85% of the students there will have taken BarBri...so we will all be at the same point.
I will be taking the Baby Bar in CA. We have probably one of the hardest Bars to pass. The one day exam will be split in two parts, 4 essays in the morning and 100 multi-state questions in the afternoon..a total of 8 long hours. I have already mapped out my strategy, and this has come from talking to a lot of students that have already done this test. I know that to pass the essays I need to be able to write the most complete answer in 60 min. I need to hit all the points and be done. I need to remember to IRAC every answer and not to write a holistic essay but an IRAC essay with emphasis on Rule and Application. I am working to get my "pre-written" answer into a "nutshell" and try to keep on track. I plan to write at least a hundred essays from now until June. Now the second part of the test is the mulit-state and that is where BarBri will help.
BarBri offers a first year review and they also have an on-line portion that tests for the multi-state. I plan to do over 2500 of these before next June. The key is the more you do the better you get and I have even been told that you will recognize some of them when you take the test. This is my strategy, I am not saying it will work for everyone..but I plan to use it.
Now BarBri isn't cheap and the course requires you to be in a major city because it takes 7 weeks to take. This is for the Bar not the Baby Bar...but when you sign up for BarBri in your first year of Law School, you lock in the price and you need to be aware that you are committed to the weeks of the course study. They time the course to end just prior to taking the bar and you should be at your peak then. I want to pass my first time, so I am willing to pay the extra to do just that.
There are other courses, but BarBri has been around the longest and just remember, if the "pack" is using this you should consider that the Bar Exam people keep this in mind. The Bar Exam people work with BarBri..hmmm, makes you think that maybe there is an edge to being part of the "pack", don't 'cha think? Don't take my word on this, check out the rest. Celebration Law, The Study Group, PMBR (which is really good for multi-states), Flemings...and I am sure there are others. Go on line and check it out...I believe when you do, like me you will come back to BarBri.
Well I have a year to go, but I plan to post next August that I passed my Baby Bar (finger's crossed). If you are a new Law student, don't wait to get this information...do it early! Final advice, enjoy yourself, Law School is short and life should be long, carpe diem with a bon temps zest!
