| ratsauce's Full Review: Whirlpool 24 in. GU1200XT Built-in Dishwasher |
This is the last entry in my long-term test report. My older negative review has been removed. I would suggest that readers ignore the reports from people who have only owned for a few months. My DW worked well enough for a few months too.
My Whirlpool GU1200XT failed twice in it's first year. Both times the electronics module was defective and would have cost about $300 per repair had it not been for the warrantee. Whirlpool service is effective but SLOW SLOW SLOW. The time between scheduling a repair and the repair dates was 16 and 15 days on the two repairs. Complaints to their consumer office improved the response time in the last case. My request for a warrantee extension after these repeated major failures rejected by Whirlpool consumer office.
The dishwasher, when operating correctly, is quiet, however I have repeatedly had problems with inadequate rinsing of cups and glasses on the upper level. I also feel the basket-stacking arrangement is somewhat inferior to previous kitchenaid and whirlpool models I have lived with.
Today, at 3.75 years of age, the whirlpool began making a loud 60hz noise during operation. To put this in context, the last (of several) kitchenaids I owned worked well for 21 years requiring only a relay replacement after 18years of service. The last maytag worked without problem for 7 years until I moved.
My grievances against Whirlpool & their product include poor rinsing performance, repeated premature component failure, poor service schedule and a failure by the manufacturer to stand behind their clearly defective product.
There will be a sub-4yo Whirlpool DW waiting for my trash collector on Monday, and I am looking forward to soap-free coffee from a maytag or bosch in the near future.
