lammypie's Full Review: 2005 Chrysler Town & Country
Have owned the minivan for 4 months and over 11,000 miles. In that time I've had minor problems that are annoying that probably wouldn't have to deal with if I purchased a Honda or Toyota. They are: airbag dashlight, tire pressure monitor system dashlight, check engine light and gas tank that can't "top off" with more than $.10 or it'll overfill.
I purchased the Signature Series which included sunroof, leather, DVD and GPS. For the same options, I would've paid another $6k for a Toyota or Honda. Besides the annoying problems mentioned, the minivan has been reliable, comfortable and a workhorse.
Problems started at my first fillup. I don't top off the gas excessively but would round up to the nearest cent. I tried to round up from $30.33 to $30.50 and it overfilled. Noted this so I can address at the oil change.
While driving, the tire pressure monitoring system light came on and has been on daily since May. Then the airbag light comes on when I start the car a week later. Not knowing if they'll fail to deploy, I made an appointment to get it fixed under warranty.
When I brought the car to the dealer, airbag light was fixed by removing rust from the seatbelt switch (why is there rust on a switch in a new car?). I was told not to top off the gas to avoid the problem and nothing was wrong with the tire pressure monitor.
Brought the car to another Chrysler dealer and also said nothing is wrong with tire monitor system.
Last week the check engine light came on the car and brought it and also check the tire monitor system. I was told they put the car on the computer and it doesn't show any problems and check engine light went off. They said tire pressure monitor was also checked and nothing is wrong.
Left the service desk and got the car at the lot. Tire monitor light comes on. I had the service advisor come and witness the light and he then finally told me a lot of people have problems with the tire monitor and for me to prepare to have it on constantly during the winter. No mention of repair or replacing.
If it wasn't for the annoying problems, the car has been very good. My fear is the longterm reliability of the minivan and if more major problems will surface. I wish I had better confidence of US autos and recommend wholehearted to family and friends.
