Overstock.com advertises itself as an online outlet. They like any other company have greats deals on some things, and not so great prices on others. They sell everything from furniture, artwork, electronics, exercise equipment, jewelry, clothes, shoes, linens, yard and garden supplies, and many hand made internationally imported items. It is pretty amazing at how large their inventory really is.
I used to LOVE shopping at The Big O. I bought all kinds of stuff from them. The orders used to arrive within 3-4 days from ordering, and the merchandise was great quality. I recommended this .com to a lot of my friends. Well as of September 2005 I can no longer recommend this online store.
I have received 3 items in a row which were VERY POOR quality. One was a 14kt gold necklace which looked like it had literally been bought at a garage sale and put into a new box and re-sold. It was scratched up and looked completely fake. I called to return it, and it took almost 3 weeks of me badgering them to ever prompt them into sending me a return authorization label. The customer service was AWFUL.
Next I got a down comforter which reeked of dead chickens when I unzipped the plastic bag. The stench was so bad it nearly knocked me over. Customer Service said a small unpleasant odor was to be expected.... but this my friend was no small odor. I suspect there was still decaying tissue attached to the plucked feathers it smelled so bad.
I ordered some expensive 600 thread count sheets, which were literally left on the street in front of my house, next to my mailbox in a rain storm... by their new courier DHL. When I called to complain, they said they would check into it. No apology or anything. My last order was for a wind suit for my little boy. It has been over a week, and not an email or word from the BIG O. The website also did not have any info. I finally called today and was on hold for at least 15 minutes... then they told me they had no idea where it was because they were updating some software.
My last big gripe is, I have written some negative to average reviews on several items on their website. THEY DID NOT PUT ONE EVEN SLIGHTLY NEGATIVE COMMENT OR REVIEW on their site. You only see the positive 5 star ratings these days.
One or 2 bad experiences could have been a fluke, but not 4 in a row. I think their company is really going down hill due to their growth in size. I have made my last order from that company.
