The Bottom Line
This topic is in the computer section, so I'll try to make it mostly for computers. Unfortunately, It's going to be difficult to completely eliminate everything else. These days, it's possible to use the same speakers for your TV, computer, radio and whatever else you have in your room. The problem, if you want to call it that, is that you can only have the sound for one thing at a time. I don't mind so much being that I rarely use the sound on my computer. It's only when I'm watching a video clip or listening to mp3s on my computer that I really care about the computer's speaker quality.
I'd recommend one speaker system for your room for most people. How often do you listen to two things at once, anyway. The trick is to make sure that the speakers are attached to a unit that can handle several different sources. The unit will be able to differentiate between them as CD, Tape, Auxiliary, etc. (You may have to run your TV though a VCR; reading the instructions may save you a lot of trouble.)
Another advantage of having one speaker system is that you can spend all of your speaker money on one system. Many of the new systems have different modes. You can have it configured for games if you want or have it configured for music or whatever else you might want to use it for.
There shouldn't have to be a lot of setup time involved here. Most of it will be figuring out where the wires go. Also, get a circuit breaker. This will not only open up outlets, but it will make access easier and will help protect the speaker system. Also, look into warrantees. You can never tell when the stereo will break.
