This weekend I ordered a camera from Wawa. Of course, immediately after placing my online order, I read the reviews of WawaDigital on Epinions. Of course my first reaction was to panic and call Wawa to cancel the order. Visa told me I would have to contact the vendor first. It was Saturday and the number given at the site would not connect. I was not sure whether it was because Wawa is closed on Saturday or because it was out of business. I decided to sleep on it but was very uneasy about the order. As I am going to Africa in a month, it is rather important that I get the camera that I ordered.
Today, I received a call from WawaDigital. The young man on the phone first asked to confirm the order. He then told me that I had made a good choice because he used the same camera. Next came the situation that I had read about too many times. He started with the memory card and how I needed an upgrade. I told him that I had a 512 mg card. Next he wanted to get into batteries and other accessories. I told him that I was a photographer and had more than enough accessories. He then even tried to sell me filters which, not really being a photographer, I would have no idea how to use. I told him that I would check out the camera and get back to him. Finally, he asked which warranty I wanted, the 1 year or the 5 year. I told him that Visa covered my camera with an extended plan (again, an embellishment). At that point he gave up and thanked me for my purchase and hung up.
I am interested to see if the camera shows up and as is as advertised. If it does than I say that WawaDigital delivers on what it promises.
It is important to remember that WawaDigital is a reseller and makes very little money on the product. The reason they ask for a confirmation phonecall is to sell the add-ons which are the bread and butter of their business. If they are a hard sell, it is because the prices that they sell the hardware for dictates it. Want a lower price? You pay for it with a sales call. If you do your homework before the call, you should be able to negotiate the conversation with no hard feelings. It's a bit like bargaining for the product but for a 20%, it might be worth it.
