A loyal shopper for years, I found out the hard way they have grown too big for their own good. I have purchased tons of stuff from Amazon in the past and have always been pleased with their fast shipping. Even during Christmas-time. So I was really happy to find a few "must-have" items for my family on their site, all of which claimed they would be shipped by December 23. I knew that was cutting it close, but since I had never had a problem with them, I went ahead and ordered. That was a mistake.
The majority of the items said "usually shipped in 24 hours." Well, almost immediately after ordering I get an email saying there is a delay in shipping, but don't worry, they'll be there by Dec 23.
A few days later, I had received 1 part of my order, but the majority was still not shipped. I called customer service, stating they were Christmas presents and I was concerned I wouldn't receive them on time. They assured me they were in stock and there was no problem, I would receive them in time.
Today, on the 21st, I get an email saying they won't ship until AFTER the 24th! On top of it, they say the items are being processed, so I can't stop the order. I can return the items after I get them, but return shipping at my expense.
Now, I have been told it was because I had used Free Super-Saver shipping. Problem? Only part of my order was free shipping. The part that is being held up is the portion I PAID over $23 to ship!! And still it won't be shipped in time. They can't cancel the order and they won't offer me any kind of refund on shipping or anything. Funny, the items I did get were the free-shipping ones! Also, why should it matter what is free shipping or not? If the company makes the claim that it will be delivered by the 23rd they should live up to that, irregardless of the shipping method. I could understand 1 item, but I have 6-7 different items that are "unfortunately" delayed. That's unacceptable.
After talking to other people, I have heard this has happened to many people at Christmas-time. One woman actually ordered items in OCTOBER, and was emailed a week before Christmas to say some items would not ship until in January. Apparently during "off-time" they have a great track record, but during the holidays they are hit-or-miss.
I find it ironic that Amazon boasts on its front page that they have sold over 108,000,000 gifts since November. What they don't tell you is the number that will be received AFTER the holidays. I suppose those numbers look good for the shareholders, even though the reality is that there are customers who do not get their items in time for Christmas.
The worst irony is, today in my email I get an ad from Amazon boasting "order by the 21st for December 23 delivery." Don't you believe it.
