| artiste's Full Review: Philips PC Camera |
The new video cameras and software messaging is a novelty for many people. It is also used for conferencing. The new version Philips Pc Camera has a scanning option, which previous versions did not have.
The camera works with a resolution of 800 by 600 pixels and speeds of up to 30 frames per second. The images are sharp . You can use software controls to adjust color contrast and brightness. You can hear via a built in microphone which produces crisp and clear sounds.
Another added feature in this model is the scanner. It's performance is mediocre at best. It comes with PageCam software, however, it does not scan well. In the scanner mode, the camera is mounted on a tripod and aimed at the desk of the page you want to scan. You can raise or lower the tripod legs to change the focus and coverage. The setup does not work well even though the camera looks kind of cute. I don't like the way scanned pages came out. The graphics were sharp, however wrinkles from the page showed up because there is no bed or roller to make the page flat.
The camera comes with Microsoft NetMeeting for videoconferencing, Ulead Photo Express 2.0 SE for image editing (still pictures) and Smith Micro's VideoLink to send video e mails. I like this camera for videoconferencing. However, I don't like the scanner and recommend purchasing a better quality one on the market. The camera can be purchased cheaper without the scanner.
