Pros: Inexpensive, appears to work on lots of different stains, not stinky.
Cons: Funky stuff on hands, avoidable w/ gloves, small bottle that doesn't last long.
The Bottom Line: Give this stuff a go if nothing else has worked for you- it removed stains and got glue out of my carpet, too.

********** UPDATE AT BOTTOM **************
Well, I've been bitten by the spring-cleaning bug a bit early this year, and am actually going to buy a giant rug for the living room, but want to shampoo the carpets first before laying the new carpet down. I've learned from experience that you still need to pre-treat and scrub particularly noticable stains before you run the cleaner-
sooo- off I went today to find a cleaner for the carpet.
In the past I've used just about everything for carpet that comes out of a spray can, Woolite, WallyWorld's house brand, that one in the red bottle, even a few of the squirty kinds. And I've never been that jazzed on the removal of stains. I've even gone the old route of boiling up water to mix with the oxy-clean crystals and trying to make a paste to get rather nasty stains out with, and I felt that after that little fiasco, that it actually bleached my carpet out, to where I had big light polka-dots all over my carpet, verses the cherry-red, grapey-purple, mountain dewey-green, and inky black-coke polka-dots that I had before, and coincidentally, have right now.
I have a 7 year old, who has to dump at least 1 soda a day, drop plates of food for the sheer enjoyment of seeing me on my hands and knees, picking food out of the carpet, and recentely, seems to have a passion for play-doh and elmer's glue all over the carpet. Add to that a couple of cats who seem to believe the entire house is their litter box- and then just the daily grime of dirty shoes and stuff, and I have some really dingy carpet. I swear when I have my own home (renting now) that I will have nothing but concrete.
Anywho- today at a local grocery store, Buy4Less, I found Clorox Oxi Magic for $2.89. I've always trusted the Clorox name, and saw the promise of it being "chlorine bleach free" and the rundown of what it claims to get out, so I thought I'd give it a-go.
I squirted the clorox down rather heavily on about a 4x4 foot square area by the front door that is really bad- a few squiggle lines where the garbage water has leaked out, and just really pretty grimey from where our feet first make it in from the outside. I let it sit for about 5 minutes, as directed on the bottle (forgetting to color-fast test it first) and got out the $1 bin brush that I bought today as well. I was in shock- within just a few minutes of scrubbing, the carpet was relatively clean!
Most noticeable the black squiggles were gone, and I was able to loosen up some of the glitter-glue globules that have been in the carpet for probably close to a year now- at least I think it's been there a year- I haven't been presented with any new picasso-art pieces from my kid that featured glitter-glue in about a year.
The carpet brightened up, but not in the drastic way that the oxy-clean detergent did, this color seems almost reminscent of what I remember it looking like when it was new. If I hadn't mentioned it before- my carpet is silver-gray.
I went on to a few other spots, as I was almost out of liquid- It's only 22 ounces, and doesn't appear to go-far, but squirted down several black and red polka-dots that are about the dimensions you'd think an entire 12 ounce can minus a few sips would make on the carpet. I can tell you that the black and brown blobs came out after scrubbing.
The red- well, I can still see it, but it's not nearly as noticeable. I know of some orange spots under one of the sofas, but I didn't get to them before I ran out of spray, so I'll have to get more tomorrow and update it then.
I also haven't ventured into the areas where the cats like to poop, so I'll update that tomorrow as well- along with a rust stain that we actually got the night we moved in because our brand-new water heater leaked all over our brand-new apartment and the u-haul dolly was back in my bedroom, and within just a few hours (we'd gone out to eat to rest after moving all day) it had rusted all over the carpet.
Sooo, I do need to update tomorrow on the orange polka dots, cat poop and rust.
But overall, I am very happy with this stuff. It got out stains that other brands haven't. It has a very pleasant smell, not harsh at all. I would recommend that you wear gloves though, because the hand that scrubbed the carpet with, well, the fingers got some funky white stuff on them that wouldn't go away until I'd washed several times and applied lotion several times as well.
************** UPDATE *********************
Hello again, I've had to wait a few days, because my grocery store ran out of the product, but I found it yesterday at Family Dollar, for $2.75 for the same size.
I've now used the Oxi Magic in the bathroom- it cleaned the toothpaste spattered mirror without streaking, and foamed up nicely on the sink and counter. It loosed up all the crud that can accumlate in a sink (if you don't clean it out everyday like I'm not prone to do- and my 7 year old is very good at making those big toothpaste globs everywhere, too- so I had some of those to clean off) Everything came off quickly, versus say pine sol. Normally I used watered down bleach in the bathroom, but I thought I could give this stuff a quick run down on the counter to see how it works, and I think it did great. I really appreciate the pleasant scent- I can't stress that enough. When you consider that I do normally use bleach water, this was almost a treat!
I've ventured into my son's room, where the cat likes to be naughty outside the pan and it did a very good job of getting out some of the yellow stains I hadn't noticed before because I don't normally spend that much time on my hands and knees in there. It also got out the pooh stains. Very happy. I don't know how long term the smell removal will be- but again- I am shampooing the carpets in the next week.
:o) Still happy with this product!
