What can You do?

Sep 27 '01

The Bottom Line Do all that you can for the survivors of this tragedy, put your own house in order, and pray.

I have a totally different viewpoint on how we can help. Many of you may not appreciate my point of view, but I hope you take the time to read this and think about what I have to say.

September 11, 2001 terrorists invaded our country and killed over 6000 American and other citizens from many countries. We were all shocked and horrified by the distruction and loss of life. We should not have been surprised. I was not surprised! I knew that it would happen one day, just not when, where, or how.

What can you do for our country today? PRAY.

Yes, give what you can to the Salvation Army, volunteer to give blood and be kind to your neighbor. Do all that you can for the survivors of this tragedy. But, also get on your knees and Pray. Pray that God will give our leaders the wisdom to do His Will, not theirs. Pray the people who give us the news will learn something from this horror that has befallen our country. And pray that we citizens will see this as a wake-up call and put our own houses in order.

When I received the following in my email the other day I knew I had to share it here. A friend of mine in Arizona sent it to me. I do not know if this is true. I hope it is and I wish every state in the union would have opened their senate with this Prayer.

(quote)OPENING PRAYER-KANSAS STATE SENATE

Thought you might enjoy this interesting prayer given in KANSAS at the opening session of their Senate. It seems prayer still upsets some people.

When Minister Joe Wright was asked to open the new session of the KANSAS SENATE, everyone was expecting the usual generalities, but this is what they heard:

"Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask your forgiveness and to seek your direction and guidance. We know Your Word says, "Woe to those who call evil good", but that is exactly what we have done.

We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values. We confess that....We have ridiculed the absolute truth of Your Word and called it Pluralism.

We have exploited the poor and called it the Lottery,

We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare,

We have killed our unborn and called it choice,

We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable,

We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self-esteem,

We have abused power and called it politics,

We have coveted our neighbor's possessions and called it ambition,

We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of speech,

We have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment.

Search us, Oh, God, and know our hearts today; cleanse us from every sin and set us free.

Guide and bless these men and women who have been sent to direct us to the center of Your will and to openly ask these things in the name of

Your Son, the living Savior, Jesus Christ.

" Amen.!! "

The response was immediate. A number of legislators walked out during the prayer in protest. In 6 short weeks, Central Christian Church, where Rev. Wright is pastor, logged more than 5,000 phone calls with only 47 of those calls responding negatively....The church is now receiving international requests for copies of this prayer from India, Africa, and Korea.

Commentator Paul Harvey aired this prayer on his radio program, "The Rest of the Story ", and received a larger response to this program than any other he has ever aired. With the Lord's help, may this prayer sweep
over our nation and wholeheartedly become our desire so that we again can be called,"..one nation under God. "(end quote)

There is something that we Americans, as a society, seem to have forgotten, We do reap what we sow. How important is it to be Politically Correct in the face of this tragedy? When did we, as a society, decide it was not polite to call a spade, a spade? When did the news stations decide that we, the people of this country did not need cold hard facts, but only scandals about our congress men and women and our presidents? And why have the so called reality shows been so popular?

If the American people did not watch them, do you think they would continue? We are a Capitalist Country. Television is only the reflection of what the people want to see.

And what about those of you who want to save the world from pollution? How polluted is New York now? How important is it for you envirementalists to save the fishes in the streams and the field mice today? Are you still going to fight to save Alaska from being polluted by searching for oil there? How important is saving the wild life there or any where as compared to human life?

As the weeks, months, and years go by and we are asked to sacrifice our bright, young, people and our 'civil rights' to keep our country and our citizens safe from more terrorist attacks, will we continue to be 'united'?

I pray we will.
