I had a contract service with Verizon. Out of 450 minutes each month, I only was using 380. I cancelled my contract and decided to go with a pre-paid service. I went to Wal-Mart and was told that there were no complaints with the Tracfone. The first 2 months have been great. I didn't know about the referrals though so I have spent this much : $29.99 for the phone, $48.00 for some minutes, $20.00 for some more minutes. Last week, the minutes disappeared and Tracfone determined that the phone was defective. They expressed mailed me (DHL) a reburbished phone and it arrived today.
Basically, this is a great phone for occasional or limited use of cell phone. The customer service department has been great. The phones are cute and very small and very hip. I definitely recommend this service even after the problems I have had. The service is just too good a deal to pass up. Also, if you get a referral from someone with Tracphone, you get 120 minutes if you complete certain steps BEFORE you activate the phone.
