Pros: Smooth Ride, Great Performance and Beautiful in appearance inside and out.
Cons: The price is always a con for me, all pickups are priced too high!
The Bottom Line: In my book for the money spent, the 2001 Silverado is the best dollar spent. Chevrolet has really done their homework on this beauty.

Chrome bumpers are provided for the front and back.
Two nice cup holders that fold up out of your way when not using them.
A nice large fuel tank of 26 gallons.
Gauges, not dummy lights, Oil Pressure, Voltmeter and Tachometer.

Compared to the Competitors
This is a small comparison with the main competitors, Dodge and Ford. The comparison is made on the lowest priced 1500 series pickup that they have. The Ford is the 2001 F150 Regular Cab and the Dodge is the 2001 Ram Pickup 1500 Regular Cab.
Price
The Dodge comes out as the lowest price pickup with only front disc brakes and rear anti-lock brakes. The Ford and Chevy have front and Rear on both disc brakes and anti-lock. The Dodge comes standard with a Front painted bumper, the Ford and Chevy have front & rear chrome bumpers.
Silverado $16045.00
Ford $17095.00
Dodge $15285.00
Engines
The Chevy Silverado comes out on top with the most horsepower available over Doge and Ford.
Silverado – standard is a 4.3 Liters V6 with 200HP, a 4.8 Liters with 270HP and a 5.3 Liters with 285HP.
Ford - standard is a 4.2 Liters V6 with 202 HP, a 4.6 Liters V8 with 231HP and a 5.4 Liters V8 with 260 HP.
Dodge – standard is a 3.0 Liters V6 with 175HP, a 5.2 Liters V8 with 230 HP and a 5.9 Liters V8 with 245HP
Gas Mileage
The Gas mileage is compared with a 2WD and an automatic transmission. There wasn’t a whole lot of difference but Dodge is the loser in this area. Ford and Chevy were almost the same but, remember the Silverado has a lot more horsepower.
Silverado – the gas mileage is the same for the V6 and the 4.8 Liters V8 at 16 MPG in the city and 21 MPG on the highway. The 5.3 Liters V8 is 15 MPG in the city and 19 MPG on the highway
Ford – the gas mileage for the 4.2 Liters V6 is 16 MPG in the city and 20 MPG on the highway. The 4.6 Liters V8 is 16 MPG in the city and 21 MPG on the highway and the 5.4 Liters V8 is 15 MPG in the city and 19 MPG on the highway.
Dodge - the gas mileage for the 3.9 Liters V6 is 15 MPG in the city and 20 MPG on the highway. The 5.2 Liters V8 is 14 MPG in the city and 19 MPG on the highway and the 5.9 Liters V8 is 12 MPG in the city and 18 MPG on the highway.
The Ride
If you want a pickup that rides like a mid size car then the 2001 Silverado is made for you. The ride is smooth as any mid size car I have driven and smoother than any compact cars out there. Even the 4WD Silverado has a nice smooth ride, though you can fell a little bounce in the road over the 2WD Silverado.
Once you drive a pickup for a while you will not want to go back to a car. Your visibility is much nicer sitting up higher than in most cars.
With the extended cab you are getting a lot of room for passengers in the back. If you keep the front seats about half way up, this will provide enough comfortable legroom for adults to sit in the back.
The Silverado holds the curves very comfortably, it doesn’t feel top heavy at all.
Braking is no problem, when locking them up, it stopped in a smooth straight line.
Overall
One of the neat features is, it will tell you when to change the oil somewhere between 3000 and 7500 miles. It has a sensor built-in to detect when the oil needs changing.
I am very impressed by the quality and performance built into the Silverado line.
The Warranty is for 3-years or 36,000-miles Limited Bumper-to-Bumper, with 3-years or 36,000-miles 24-hour Roadside Assistance. Chevrolet gives you 6-years or 100,000-miles on Sheet Metal Rust-Thru.
I highly recommend the 2001 Silverado 1500.
