If I have the option of purchasing a product in a retail store or on-line, I will usually choose the latter. I love to browse and shop on-line and unfortunately at times, my bank statement reflects this addiction. I find on-line shopping much more preferable than having to pack up my son and myself in the car, waste gas driving the crappy construction-filled Twin Cities highways to a mall, muddle my way through crowds and then wait in a check-out line. So, when I decided to purchase a Bumbo Seat, I decided to go straight to the manufacturer at bumboseat.com.
What can I purchase at the Bumbo Seat Online Store?
Well, this may come as a shocker, but the primary product is a Bumbo Seat! Essentially, its a small foam-material seat that helps young babies to sit upright before they can do it on their own. For more info, click on the above link. There are a few other products available on the site, including a Podee Hands Free Bottle for use with your Bumbo Seat (you have to see this thing to believe it), a baby hip carrier, unique tee-pee style play tents for children, and a Medi-Bag, which is kid friendly first-aid kit with all the essentials.
Site Organization and Navigation
With only 5 different products, its not that hard to organize this website. Of course, most of the site is dedicated to providing information on the original product: the Bumbo Seat. On the home page, you can find links to add a Bumbo Seat of any color to your cart, as well as a feature on the MediBag, because its the newest product available on the site.
Along the left hand side of the homepage is a menu where you can link to purchase a bumbo, track a previous order, FAQ, Testimonials, Contact Info, and finally new products, which is where you can find the play tents, hands-free bottle and hip carrier. Apparently these products are not yet worthy of their own link. A typical shopper would not even know they were available unless they happened to click on new products at the bottom of the menu. I would think that if theyd like to increase sales on these, they might want to make them a little more prominent on the site.
Ordering and Shipping
Ive now placed 3 orders with BumboSeat.com and have yet to have any problems or complaints regarding the ordering or shipping processes. Ordering is standard: simply add your desired item to your cart and click check-out. You will then choose a UPS shipping method. The site offers Ground, 2nd day, 3rd day or overnight shipping. Finally, youll be prompted for your shipping & billing addresses and your payment information. BumboSeat.com accepts Visa, MC, Discover or AmEx. When youre done, you click to submit your order and once processed, a confirmation screen will appear. Youll also immediately receive a confirmation e-mail.
All 3 items that Ive ordered from BumboSeat.com have been shipped to me within 2 days. When shipped, you receive an e-mail providing UPS tracking information. Ive chosen ground shipping each time and have received my items within 4-5 days. Packaging is secure, as the products are shipped in their own manufacturers box inside of another sturdy cardboard box with plenty of packaging material for cushioning.
BumboSeat.com also kindly offers a 30-day no-questions-asked return policy. Simply pay the shipping back to them (no RMA required) and they will credit the purchase amount back to your credit card.
Pricing
The prices of items on BumboSeat.com are all over the place. The primary item, the Bumbo Seat, sells for $39.95, which is comparable to what it retails for at Target ($39.99) and what I think is a fair price for the product assuming you order it in time to get plenty of use out of it (see my Bumbo Seat review for more info on this).
The MediBag childrens first aid kit seems reasonable at $19.95, and comparable to other similarly marketed products out there. The hands-free bottle unit ranges from $8.35 for one bottle down to $7.50/bottle for purchasing 6 or more. The hip carrier sells for $49.99, which is pricier than a lot of models, but not nearly as bad as the Bjorn carriers. Then there are the play tents. They sell for $320!!! Looking at the photos, I may as well set up some branches in a tee-pee position and throw a colorful quilt over them. $320!!! Im not sure what else to say about that, but I wonder how they sell?
Customer Service
For a site that sells so few products, and one from which Ive purchased 3 times in the last 6 months, I think its a testament to their service that I havent yet had to contact them at all with any problems or questions. But the customer service information is clearly listed as follows on the website, and they urge customers to contact them with any concerns, stating that you are not just a number to us
