| artagnan's Full Review: Hercules 3D Prophet II MX |
To start out I would like to point out that I bought a 64Mb version of this video card and not the 32Mb version recommended at Epinions.com and that I want anybody and everybody who can afford it to do the same thing. I'll tell you why.
The 64Mb version is exactly the same in every respect as the 32Mb version there are no driver differences or anything the ony difference is the 32Mb of extra memory that this card can come with. But having double the memory should make it lots more expensive right? Wrong! The 32Mb version can be purchased for around $100 and the 64Mb version can be purchased for around $130. But who needs the extra memory? The answer, gamers! This video card was, in my opinion was made for gamers with tight budgets, both versions, because their fast, reliable and can take a beating with overclocking.
Now the bad part, compatability. What do you do when you start a game and you get a black screen, or the colors are messed up? You go to the troublleshooting guide of your game, and what does it say? It says update your video drivers. Right, like how is updating my "drivers" going to fix my game? Well, I wish I knew the answer, but I only know that it works! Updating your drivers on GeForce based cards from the manufacturers website is the best way to fix your game. On the 3D Prophet II MX64/32 is the same principle go to the Hercules website and update to version 12.4x+ and your game will work fine. I know from experience and was very frustrated with version 6.x and 7.x because some games supported 6.x and some supported 7.x, but not both.
These cards (the 32Mb and 64Mb versions) come with clear instructions, easy to install, easy to update drivers. They support OpenGL and DirectX v7/8+ and anybody who wants a good card for a lesser price should be interested in the Hercules 3D Propjet II MX64/32.
