Don't bother ordering the Mitsuibishi HD Adapter (Reply to this comment)
by iquite
I purchased an adapter for around $345.00 including shipping and tax in order to upgrade my 1999 Mitsuibishi TV to HD. The TV does not allow a zoom feature to fill the screen, so my 60" diagonal has been reduce to a "47" diagonal view. The only exception is true HD TV broadcast in 16 X 9 ratio. ( in my cable system that is around 5 channels.)

Additionally, the new Denon DVD which I was told could run through this box cannot be used as the box will only accept HD signals. So, I needed to run separate cables from the DVD to the TV.

I am returning the adapter as soon as I can get to UPS on Monday morning!!

Has anyone had any success with this?

I recently purchased the adapter for the HD upgrade. Not only did it reduce my display from a 60" diagonal to a 47" diagonal for all stations not broadcasting in HD, but also in HD broadcasting that was not in the 16X9 format. You cannot use the Zoom feature on the upgradable tvs. So, on Cox Cable I have only 7 channels with a larger picture.

In addition the DVD progressive scan cannot be used with this adapter, so you need to run a separate cable directly to the TV and not through the box. I am returning the entire set up on Monday.

Has anyone found any solutions to this?

Re: Mitsubishi 80803 HDTV RGB CV-10 Adapter (Reply to this comment)
by pwtsd
Hey. Anyone have any luck finding the RGB CV-10 on a shelf someplace? I've hooked up my Samsung HD receiver, set the 80803 to HD input, and I have tons of diagonal interference lines. Any alternatives to the CV-10?

Thanks,
Stephen

Mitsubishi HDTV adapter (Reply to this comment)
by awike
For those of you wishing to utilizing your Mitsubishi HDTV, you may want to make sure you don't need a special adapter. If your using an older/first generation Mitsubishi you may be in for a surprise.

When I contacted Mitsubishi the order department information me that the adapter for a VS-80803 was on back order until February 2004. The cost was $300.

Very helpful piece of information.

I got the 65HDX82 HD Capable-RPTV and 34HDX82 HD Capable-CRT and love it.

I do have a question where you might be able to help since you seem to know what you are talking about.

My friend bought a Mitsubishi WS-65903 (HD upgradable) in 1997. To upgrade his TV to HD, he needs to buy a module (RGB-CV10 Adapter Module) to enable his TV to take in HD signal.

About RGB-CV10:
http://www.mitsubishi-tv.com/PDFs/hdadapter.pdf

However, his RGB-CV10 module is only compatible with 1 type of input signal:

• Component Video signals marked as Y, Pb, Pr
• Scanning rate of 1080i, 60Hz
• EIA-770.3 Standard Levels and Timing

These other types or more are not compatible:

• RGB with synchronization on green
• RGB with separate horizontal and vertical synchronization signals
• Scanning rates of 720p, 480p, 480i and 1080p

My first question is:

Can he buy any HDTV tuner that is capable of 1080i output? Or does he have to ensure EIA-770.3 compliance?

My second question is:

He loves the quality of picture on my TV when watching DVD played through my progressive scan DVD player (I believe my Toshiba DVD player outputs in 540p). Since the output is 480p or 540p, his RGB-CV10 module does not understand the input signal so TV does not display anything. What can hookup the DVD player to to upconvert the 540p signal to 1080i?
