If you pay by paypal, which I recommended, you still have protection for offline deals.

If you offer online deals ebay will not be held accountable for any money lost/stolen. This happened to me. If you offer to pay offline, and the seller decides to lie and say he never got the check or money order, your out. No protection offered from ebay.
