Dr Devience's Favorite 10 Comedies

The Bottom Line __________________________

Ok I'm in a list mood for some reason. Getting in gear for a w/o got me to thinking about various movies I liked that others didn't.. and that lead me to thinking about comedies....which lead to a list, of course! Oscar winners? Prolly not, but I love em all anyway!

Now, you are likely to see a few on this list that you have seen on my other lists. Hey, I can't help it if some are cross-genre!

So here, for your enjoyment and/or ridicule, my top comedy movies (in no particular order)...

1) The Princess Bride
One of the most hilarious adventures you'll ever see. Tis about this lad, see, and he falls in love with someone above his station..so off he goes to seek fame and fortune so he can win Buttercup's hand.. but along the way she gets kidnapped. This movie is TOO fun! Stars such big names as Billy Crystal, Cary Elwes, Mandy Patinkin, Peter Falk, Carol Kane, Andre the Giant, and Chris Sarandon, just to name a few.

You are trying to take what I have rightfully stolen!

2) Mars Attacks
Tim Burton's hilarious entry into the genre. A comedy, but dealing with well, Martians attacking Earth and our own ineptness. All star cast featuring folks such as Michael J. Fox, Pierce Brosnan, Jack Nicholson, Sarah Jessica Parker, and many more

3) Men In Black
The premise is a top secret operation designed to integrate various alien life forms into Earth society.. without the knowledge of Earth. The agents employed by this agency are known as The men in black. You've heard the rumors.. see a space ship? Watch out! The scary guys all in black will soon be visiting to wipe out your memory! This urban legend is the basis of this one. Stars Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones.

We're not hosting an intergalactic kegger down here.

4) Rocky Horror Picture Show
Awesomely funny cult flick starring Tim Curry as Dr. Frank-N-Furter..that lusciously fun sweet transvestite. This one is the choice for just plain fun! I adore the sound track.. who can sit still during Time Warp?

5) About Last Night
Edward Zwick's 1986 comedy/romance starring Rob Lowe, Demi Moore, James Belushi, and Elizabeth Perkins as friends just trying to figure out life. Perkins and Belushi are truly marvelous the way they play off of each other.

At this point, we don't know

6) Monty Python and the Holy Grail
NO list is complete without this movie. Monty Python outdo themselves with this comedic romp thru the medieval countryside, a bit of a parody of Excalibur.

This is supposed to be a happy occasion. Let's not bicker and argue about who killed who

7) Office Space
Zany, madcap movie dealing with cubicle wars. This one is so close to reality that you recognize this ridiculous crap that goes on at the office. Guaranteed side-splitter and destined to become a cult classic.
I have people skills; I am good at dealing with people. Can't you understand that? What the hell is wrong with you people?

8) What About Bob?
Bill Murray is the client (Bob) of a famous Psychiatrist played by Richard Dreyfus in this off-the-wall comedy. Things go spiraling out of control when Bob shows up his Shrink's vacation home and pretty much takes over.

9) Monty Python's Life of Brian
This one has been lambasted in certain sectors for taking swipes at religion, but ignore that. Those folks are humorless and I pity them. Life of Brian is just that, the life of a poor chap name of Brian who has the luck to be born in the manger next door to Jesus on Christmas....yes, he is the one, the only, Brian of Nazareth.

10) Robin Hood: Men in Tights
As with all tales of Robin Hood, the Sheriff of Nottingham (excuse me, Rottingham) is wreaking havoc on King Richard's kingdom in Richard's absence. Robin gathers a group of hearty (bumbling) woodsmen (in tights) and goes about trying to save things..

Because, unlike some other Robin Hoods, I can speak with an English accent.

And just because I never follow the rules, an eleventh pick:

Serial Mom ~ Somehow I have resisted the urge through the years to off a few folks and bury the bodies in the backyard. Sometimes I think the world would have been much better off had I simply followed my urges. Some people just really need to be stopped before they breed, yanno? Well, Kathleen Turner does indeed follow those urges in the 1994 John Waters masterpiece Serial Mom. I soooo want to be her that I even finally went out bought a dress like hers. Be afraid...

Misty Sutphin: He killed people, mom.
Beverly Sutphin: We all have our bad days.
