I have flown JetBlue a few times now and each time I have booked my ticket using their online site: www.jetblue.com. I have booked several airlines using their online sites and I find that Jetblue is one of the easiest to use.
GETTING STARTED
The first thing you are going to want to do is get a frequent flier number. This allows you to accumulate points toward free flights. Getting a number is easy. You just provide the basic information including name, address, phone number and email. They assign you a number on the spot. One good thing about getting a frequent flier number is that they give you extra points for booking your ticket on line.
FINDING FLIGHTS
Jetblue does not fly to every city but they have an ever-expanding list of cities they do fly to. If you have never flown Jetblue, the first thing to do is to make sure they fly to and from the cities you are interested in.
After that, the method for finding flights is very easy. You just put in the dates you want and choices will come up. Jetblue prices each leg of the flight so you have to play around to find a good fare.
The only problem with using this site is that, if you are looking for the best fare, you will want to compare Jetblue with other airlines. I usually use Orbitz or Travelocity to compare flight prices. However, I never use Orbitz, Travelocity or other sites to actually book flights. Those sites often charge an extra service fee that you won't have to pay if you go to the airline's own site. Also, many airlines, like Jetblue, offer you additional frequent flier points for booking your flights on their web site. This makes it easy for me to decide book on the airline's own site.
MANAGING FLIGHTS
You can pick your seats once you book your flight on the site. You can also change flights if you have to. Jetblue also lets you print your boarding pass directly from the site. I don't find this particularly helpful since I usually have to check baggage case but I suppose how this works depending on the airport you are flying from.
OTHER WEBSITE INFO
I like Jetblue's site. The site isn't cluttered with lots of offers or other junk. You can easily navigate using the menus and they generally make it easy for you. The site also loads pretty quickly if you are still using older technology.
Unlike some other airlines, Jetblue doesn't offer tons of package deals. There are some car and hotel deals on the site but there doesn't seem to be as much as you could locate elsewhere. Those really into Jetblue can also buy Jetblue merchandise on the site.
MY EXPERIENCE
I have had some mixed experiences using the Jetblue website. I book my tickets on the Jetblue site and I usually print out the email with my confirm number just so I have it as a record. However, when I arrive at the airport, they already have my information and they just require an id. I like that I can pick my seats on the site and that I can get my boarding passes before I arrive.
My one word of caution is that I arrived once at Jetblue at Boston's Logan airport about 50 minutes before my flight. This happens frequently because I travel for business and sometimes get held up in meetings. However, most airlines let you on as long as you arrive at least 20 minutes before so I didn't expect a problem. However, Jetblue really gave me a hard time. They told me I was too late for the flight. As a result, I had to throw a fit and call management before they let me on. As it turned out, I think the flight was oversold and they were looking for excuses to boot people off. This review is of the web site, not the airline as a whole, but I do want to warn people that Jetblue has a tougher policy than all of the other airlines I have flown. They don't mention the one hour requirement anywhere on the site.
For my last booking, I had enough points to get some free tickets for my family but I also had to buy two tickets. To redeem frequent flier points, I called customer service. They booked my free flights. Customer service then told me to book the remaining flights on line so I would get the extra points. After doing so, they told me to call back and they would do the seat assignments so we could all sit together. This whole process took about an hour and a half. However, I can't complain because I had made a booking mistake on the web site. The customer service agent noticed it and called me at home to tell me she had fixed it for me. I thought that was what customer service should be, but usually isn't and I was very impressed with that Jetblue agent. I really appreciated how they blended the phone line with the website booking to give me the maximum value for my points.
FINAL RECOMMENDATION
Overall, I can recommend Jetblue's web site for online booking. They don't charge fees to book on line and they give you extra frequent flier points as an incentive. The process once you get to the airport is also usually easy. I have had mixed experiences flying Jetblue but their website booking definitely has its act together.
