I have been a regular shopper at Barnes and Noble online for over 2 years. The first time I shopped there was when they were giving coupons for $10 off of a $10 purchase with free shipping. I was immediately hooked. I have shopped at several other on-line bookstores; however, BN.com has been the one that I can rely on the most.
DEPARTMENTS
The Bookstore
This is the section where one will find the same books as are found in most regular bookstores. We have a HUGE Barnes and Noble in our locale. However, the selection at the Brick & Mortar store does not compare to the selection found online. One the left side of the main page is a directory of categories of books.
Out Of Print
This is THE place to find out of print, used, and rare books online. One of my hobbies is to read outdated medical books to learn how medicine has progressed through the years. I am able to find many rare medical books here. Also, when I was a teenager, I bought a wonderful cookbook. A few years ago, the cookbook literally fell apart and I had to put it to rest. The updated versions of that book just were not the same. A few months ago, I found the original cookbook through this site.
College Textbooks
This site is regularly used in our home since I have two children who are in college. They claim to get the best prices for both new and used textbooks from this site. I have been able to find many current used medical books here for a fraction of the cost of buying them new.
Bargain Books
There are times when I think that I live at this portion of the site. This is where you can save up to 88% off of the publisher's price. If you want to find a book that is under $5 or $10 dollars, this is the place to come. They have MANY $1 books also. I will have to admit that I have bought several books from this section that I read then later sold on Ebay for more money than what I have paid.
E-books
I have not investigated this site because I am old fashioned when it comes to books. I want to be able to hold mine in my hands then look at it on the bookshelf.
Music
Most people are not aware that one can buy music from Barnes and Noble. I do not buy much music so I cannot comment on the selection or prices. I do know that whenever one of my children request a musical CD, I can find it here. Also, we have never had a problem with the quality of the CD.
DVDs and Videos
This section typically surprises most people since they do not expect a bookstore to sell movies. I have not purchased a DVD or video through BN.com because I have found that their prices are higher than other companies. However, this may or may not be true for all movies.
PC and Video Games
Barnes and Noble seems to have a fairly decent selection of PC and Video Games. However, you probably will not want to take my opinion on this issue since I really don't buy many of these items. I prefer the free stuff I can get on-line.
Magazine Subscriptions
I have order several magazine subscriptions through BN.com and have been very pleased with them. The prices have been lower than what I typically find elsewhere and the selection is excellent. It takes about 2 months for the subscription to start.
On-Line Courses
I am an education junky so I absolutely LOVE these free courses. BN.com offers a variety of on-line courses in the areas of literature and language, history, home and leisure, arts and entertainment, business and education, science and technology, health and family, and life improvement. Would you like to learn about writing for children, Shakespeare's comedies, dog training, web page development, how the brain works, exploring herbal medicine, or about 30 other topics? Well, then this is the right place for you.
Of course, they hope that you buy the recommend books from them. Although buying the books may enable one to get more out of the classes, the books are not absolutely necessary.
SHIPPING AND DELIVERY
I have never had any difficulty with shipping and delivery. All of my items have arrived when expected and in excellent shape. Barnes and Noble packages their items very carefully.
DISCOUNTS
Before I place any orders, I always surf the net to locate on-line coupons for BN.com. I almost always am able to find a significant discount code.
