I have been to the brick and mortar location in Los Angeles and purchased several items in person, although the business is not set up as a retail store type of establishment. The front door is always locked; there is no sign street side; and there is no showroom. BK, the owner, is a good friends with a mutual friend.
After moving out of town, I tried an on-line purchase of several insignificant items totaling less than $200. I received two-thirds of the order very quickly considering that it shipped to South America. There was no invoice in the shippment to indicate where the rest of my order was, but the on-line e-mail I received confirmed that the entire order had been filled and shipped.
So I waited another week to see if the order was separated into multiple boxes. Nothing showed and I received no update via e-mail so I tried reaching Botach via telephone and e-mail....and I tried...and I tried. After two more weeks of several e-mails, phone messages (because no one answered the damned customer service line) I finally received an e-mail stating that the remaining items were on back order and that there would be a follow up message indicating the shipping date.
Two more weeks followed and I heard nothing. I tried another e-mail and indicated that I wanted to cancel the backordered items and wanted a refund. To my surprise I received a prompt response indicating that I would receive a refund to my credit card that Friday. Friday came and went and then the next with no refund. I sent three more e-mails over the next four weeks indicating that I received no refund and received no refund or response.
Yesterday I sent an e-mail stating the I was not satisfied and that I was now contacting the California Better Business Bureau. I received a response later that afternoon stating that I would be refunded for the items requested. That was great except they picked the wrong (and lesser cost) of two items for refund. Not enough time has passed to know if they have followed through on the incorrect refund amount. At this point I'm giving up and I am thankful that I have only been shorted (or cheated out of) only about $15.00. Of course the time wasted, the frustration and aggravation are the real issues here. This saga started in the middle of December 2006 and I'm calling it quits now near the middle of April 2007.
My recommendation, use the Botach website to comparison shop because they have loads of great stuff at good prices and then go make your purchase with another, more reliable store. You may get lucky with Botach and be properly served, but I have no tolerance for this kind of thing.
If I'm burned just once, even in a small way, I never go back. There's just too much competition out there on the Web. Everyone is selling the same stuff for nearly the same cost, so the deciding factor becomes how well the customer is served.
04/22/07 update since writing above: It's only fair to include this information. Since writing the above review, I was frustrated enough to contact the Southern California BBB and file an on-line complaint. I found on the BBB website that Botach Tactical has several dozen unsettle complaints against it through the BBB. Well, Botach credited my credit card last week for the undelivered items, although it was less than it should have been because Botach still hasn't figured out what they have and have not delivered. Also missing was any funds for shipping, which were quite high on this order because I have a foreign, APO address.
Incidentally, I almost through my laptop out the window when after spending 30-minutes writing my complaint with the BBB on-line (and no way to save a copy for myself), I received an e-mail informing me that due to technical difficulties, my complaint was lost and would I please resubmit it. Miracuously, after I sent back a quick shot about how customer satisfaction in California means not, they returned a message stating all was well! I don't know if my complaint with the BBB was the reason why I received my refund, but after several weeks had passed since my last communication with Botach, I must believe something must have gotten through.
As far as I'm concerned, Botach Tactical owes me. For a little cash and certainly for the aggravation.
