Pros: The latest Symbian OS 9.1 SP1 -- it's all you can dream of right now.
Cons: battery, battery, battery -- it will not last long, the rest will be fixed
The Bottom Line: I cannot recommend it yet, unless you need an expensive good toy.First of all it should be an everyday multifunctional device, not a every-half-a-day-do-not-go-away-from-power-outlet toy.

| supplier's Full Review: Nokia N95 |
Hi all. I didn't write any reviews for few years, but I feel like I need to say something now about this phone -- otherwise nobody will help us, consumers, to get right products to us.
I will not go into details on specs for this phone. It is what everybody is talking about for 4 - 5 months now. Here is the link to the full specs: http://www.nokia.co.uk/A4344017 it has EVERYTHING that possible Smartphone can have. And I mean it. All the latest and the best stuff available! I will concentrate on usability all of these gagets from my point of view as a user of N95 (and compare it to an another Nokia phone N73, which i use for 8 months now and IMHO is simply the best quad-band multimedia Smartphone. Period.
I was perfectly happy with my N73 basic (flushed to ME, then to IE, and back to basic again with a good third party MP3 player). But I got N95 as I wanted it badly (as many other people as well), used it for 5 days and brought it back to the store. Besides it is being too raw on a FW (firmware) (something does not work yet, that was perfectly working on my N73) there are some more disadvantages I will mention later in this review. On N95 I felt in love with slider design in combination with Best Keylocked app. This is what I am missing on N73, but on N95 if you accidentally open slider to expose multimedia keys and slide it back -- Keylocked doesnt work instantly -- you need to setup an idle time lock. Another great thing on N95 is a Screen size (great navigation with Tom-Tom) and ability to change font size -- a HUGE advantage for me. Built-in GPS is nice to have, but as of now not with lock-in speed not with available application usage it cannot be even compared to Tom-Tom or Route 66 with external Sirf-III GPS unit. I just cannot stay still for 10 minutes to get locked on a satellites in Manhattan to find out my direction -- I will get faster there just by asking for direction or opening Tom-tom as a map w/o GPS unit connected and entering cross streets as start and destination. The only good usage of built-in GPS was with Nokia Sport Tracker program that I amusing anyway for daily runs. I can wait 10 minutes to lock into my location cause I need time to warm my mussels anyway before I run. So for sport exercise I did not have to bring my external GPS unit, but N95 is bigger and heavier than N73 -- so no big advantage here either. N95s UI is way faster than N73 (but still gets stuck from time to time in one of the screens for a second or two). D-pad is really better than JS, but I think the edit key is too close to d-pad for convenient marking and highlighting very slow and inconvenient -- and this is great part of my e-mailing and chatting life. Other than that -- it is all FW bugs that will be fixed later. Battery life -- (no wi-fi usage). With same pattern usage as I do on N73 -- battery lasted from 6AM till 1:30 PM. -- 7 hours it is not so bad, but definitely doesnt work for me. I need something to last me throughout the day. N73 does this just fine. Yes I have chargers at work, home in my car -- but life through something unpredictable on us all the time -- sometimes there are an emergencies in our lives -- folks are we ready to carry $1G item for everyday use as a toy only?????
With N73 I can go for a sudden 2 day trip without a charger -- just I will be using it for limited e-mails check and calls and I will be sure my family can reach me and will not be worry or I will call a police when I need it etc. I was one of the first who got s40 series Nokia 6125 or 6126 (do not remember exact name) (I had 3 (three) batteries to deal with during one day -- it is horrible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If I would trade my N73 now it would be for E65 (because of E65's design -- but I like the camera on N73, which is awesome!!!! The bottom line -- I will give N95 another chance toward the end of this year when an USA version of 3G comes out, if by that time they will not fix battery life to be a solid 12 hrs of usage (by FW tweaks or better battery) -- N95 is a history for me. By that time E90 might be my next aim.
It is my 2c. What I was saying? Nokia is a great company but with it is a profit driven company -- N95 came out with a long delay from the originaly promissed time of release. Why is that -- I do not know, maybe they had some problems, like battery life? And the only reason they dumped it out on a market is to compete with I-phone and LG Prada -- Nokia tried to grab their market place with N95 while they can. They do not care much about us (consumers) while we are buying $800 phones (some places in Eastern Europe it goes as $1500). I am a computer programmer in brokerage and my team is serving NY, London and Tokyos stock markets around the clock and I know that if there is a problem with a market report or some of the trades were not processed correctly -- it will be fixed by the morning (I remember as many as 80 people were called to work at midnight to fix problems so you (we) will not have another Black Monday or Black Tuesday.).
If Nokia would take a such approach and paid their engineers overtime -- you would get a perfect N95 device -- but they do not need to do that. They stretched out too thin to bring a new model to the market every single month and they get huge profits and keep number 1 place in sales -- who cares about us, users -- nobody, while we will continue to support (buy) substandard phones. IMHO -- N95 is substandard, e.g. -- It is a flop, not a hit.
Thanks for reading this nonsense.
update on 04/29/2007, None of the nokia stores has this new spare battery (BL-5F). The only place has you can find an OEM battery avalable is on ebay.com, BUT acourding to discussion on Nikia forum, all people who ordered "OEM" battery recieved well made by third party battery, with unreadable serial number... go figure out on your own, folks :o)
