My Best Mother's Day EVER! (Or - Why I've been MIA from Epinions!)

May 29 '04

The Bottom Line Babies are a blessing. But three is plenty. No more babies please :)

I’ve been MIA from Epinions for a while now, but you can all rest easy now – I’m back!

My reasons for not being around are pretty good, I think! A few weeks ago on May 8th, I delivered my third baby – a gloriously handsome lil’ devil named Aidan Michael. The following day, Mother’s Day, I brought home my new son. On May 17th, we moved into a larger home to accommodate our growing family. Then on May 18th, I jumped head first into my new business venture. I am now involved in a popular direct sales/party plan company that specializes in selling inexpensive gourmet food products through home taste-testing parties (can’t say the name on here – HQ considers it internet advertising, which is prohibited – ugh!).

So here is Aidan’s birth story.

For the last week or so of pregnancy, I had been having fairly regular, sometimes pretty intense, contractions. I told my husband every day that Aidan was coming “today” – to the point of no longer being taken seriously. Finally on the morning of Friday May 7th, I was *sure* that he was coming. I told my husband that “today’s the day”, but of course he went to work.

Well, I was right (I knew I would be one of those days!!). At around 11:00am I was washing dishes and my water broke. Yikes! I called my husband to come home and take me to the hospital, and my mom to come get my other kids.

When we went to the hospital, at first my midwife didn’t want to admit me. She did the tests to confirm that my bag of waters had indeed broken, and she claimed that she didn’t see any ferning on the slide. UHHHH… I think I KNOw that my water broke! It GUSHED (quite a bit!!) onto my kitchen floor. They tried to tell me that I peed myself – I am CERTAIN that I didn’t, and I maintain that fact today. She did note that I was having contractions showing up on the monitor (DUH I felt those too!) but since I was only 2-3cm, she sent me away to walk for an hour. When I came back, they admitted me right away without even putting me back on the monitor, or talking to me or anything. I honestly think they were just busy in L&D and waiting for a room to open up, but whatever… I am still miffed that I was made out to be a liar about my water breaking… it is my *THIRD* kid, I KNOW what it’s like.

Once I got admitted to L&D though, my experience got a lot better. My nurses were great!! They took such awesome care of me – I was really very surprised and pleased at the quality of my care. I made it known how happy I was!! And for the first time in 2 years, my IV was inserted competently. I’ve had a lot of IVs in the past couple years, and I usually get butchered!

I finally got my epidural at around 9:00pm when I just couldn’t take it anymore. My epidural was awesome for the most part… I was unable to feel the contractions, but didn’t get the heavy numbness in my legs, or the yucky ITCHING side effect that I got both times before. The anesthesiologist was awesome – his fabulous bedside manner put me at ease, and he was very gentle when administering the epidural. I also didn’t get nauseated at all during the labor process, which was new to me as well! With my past 2 pregnancies, I threw up during labor.

Unfortunately for me, at around 1:00am I started to be able to feel a LOT. The midwife came to check me and I was 9cm. She said that she’d come back in an hour to check me again. Not even 10 minutes passed and I KNEW that it was time. I was feeling tons and tons of pressure, but no pain yet… The urge to push was so extreme though. My husband got the midwife to come back in and check me again. Sure enough I was 10cm, complete, ready to push. Then the pain started, being able to feel the contractions and everything… I tried to get more drugs, to no avail. When I pushed, I felt EVERYTHING which was a huge shocker to me - I was completely unprepared.

Lucky for me, I’m an old pro at this now (hardy har har!) and only pushed for 13 minutes!

Aidan Michael Salazar was born at 1:36am on Saturday, May 8th 2004 (one week early – he was due May 16th). He was 8 lbs. 1 oz. and 21 inches long, with tons of jet black hair. Since I pushed for such a short time, there was no cone head!!

I brought Aidan home the following day, May 9th, Mother’s Day! This was the best Mother’s Day present I could have had.

We have been doing really well. My daughters just ADORE their new brother. Aidan is doing great… he is a furrball! He has soooo much hair, all over the place! He is a very good baby. He doesn’t cry the way my girls did. He will let out a little yell to let me know he’s hungry, but he doesn’t scream incessantly.

I feel amazing. With both of my previous pregnancies, I had a decent case of post-partum depression. This time, however, I haven’t had any signs of the blues at all – what a relief! I expected to feel much more overwhelmed than I do. I mean, I now have three children under the age of 2! Anyone would feel overwhelmed to some degree! I’m really adjusting very well though.

So that’s what I’ve been doing. I have still been trying to read and rate reviews for people that I’m alerted to, but I have even slacked some with that. I intend to get back involved with Epinions. I’m still here!
