| Suzer's Full Review: Citracal Creamy Bites Dietary Supplement |
My doctor got on my case for not taking a prescription medication to fight possible Osteoporosis. As women kick into menopause they really should be sure to increase their calcium intake. Actually, I am not totally into menopause at this point, but felt this should be the time to get into good habits. I happen to be lactose intolerant so that makes it even more difficult
The idea of taking a prescription medication such as Fosamax doesn't appeal to me, or seem wise because of the possible side effects. But, I do want to be proactive in my own care. My doctor was underwhelmed that I have taken daily TUMS, so I decided to purchase Citracal Creamy Bites instead, and heck they have them in chocolate flavor as well as lemon cream and caramel. However, I have only tried the chocolate.
What impresses me:
Well I definitely like that each of these yummy bites contains 500 mg of Calcium and 200IU of Vitamin D
This product will not produce problems with gas (well your mileage may be crummy. . . sorry)
There is no trans fat in the creamy bites.
Packaging:
These are packaged in an interesting container. The 30 bites are protected from moisture and individually sealed in trays. They can be a little awkward to get out, and feel a little bit melted to me, but not so much so that it is a problem. Just wish they were a little more solidified. You simply pull off the edge of one of the trays and rescue your little chocolaty bite. Then insert in your mouth and enjoy.
The taste test:
Are these equal to the taste of Godiva or even Sees candies? Of course not, but they do not taste medicinal to me at all. They are a quite delicious milk chocolate. Personally I prefer a dark, rich chocolate, but hey, let's not be picky. They are quite good!
Directions:
Just take one creamy bite once or twice daily or if your physician recommends more do as he/she says. Be sure to chew completely before swallowing. I have to keep reminding myself to do this, because silly me, I keep thinking it is candy.
Relevant info:
Each of the creamy bites contains 30-35 calories and 15 of those are from fat. There are 4 grams of sugar; 2% sodium
5 milligrams of cholesterol. I don't want to bore anyone with the complete ingredients, but you can find them if you wish online.
My experience:
What can I say? I am getting my calcium with a smile. These are really good tasting, and also include Vitamin D. My only complaints would be that the individual packets could be a little easier to open (not a big deal), they could be harder. I am very pleased that it is a pleasure to take these once or more a day. They don't cause gas, or other gastrointestinal problems.
If you don't care for chocolate and I know there are at least 5 of you out there, go for the lemon or caramel. They are under $8.00 online!
Final thoughts:
Of course, see your doctor annually, have a bone scan if ordered, and if he/she indicates you must have a prescription medication to avoid osteoporosis and don't have contraindications for doing so, that is probably best. However, if you do need to increase your calcium intake, and would like to do so with either chocolate, caramel or lemon in lieu of the prescription medications available, give these a try. I doubt very much you will be disappointed. I am giving them 5 stars!
