I am a retired Paris trained chef who frequently buys on the Internet and advises others of good buys. Several times I have started to buy from iKitchen but usually do not complete the transaction due to what appear to be excessive shipping charges or failure to have the item in stock. Therefore, iKitchen has become a "Vendor of Last Resort"... I wish that the quality of service, availability and "actual" shipping costs were part of the aggressive pricing and theoretical range of in-stock products. In this case, I seek a DeLonghi Meat Grinder that has become hard to find since DeLonghi bought the venerable Kenwood mixer line in England and appears to be redesigning it as an Italian product. It seems that the DeLonghi version of the product will no longer be available in the U.S. since the mixer design has clearly become the basis for the new, and less worthy, Cuisinart mixer. I had the good fortune of buying a DeLonghi 7qt. mixer that was made in the Kenwood plant in England and has a 1060 watt motor. I have also bought many accessories that bear both the DeLonghi and Kenwood brand names. The DeLonghi meat grinder accessory shown on the iKitchen web site is of metal construction indicating to me that it was of the Kenwood era. The newer DeLonghi and Cuisinart versions are made of plastic and have proved to be less serviceable. The demise of Kenwood brand products in the U.S. mirrors the tragedy of Hobart selling its KitchenAid brand to Whirlpool due to Hobarts inability to build a quality product at a price point attractive to American consumers. Hobart still makes top quality commercial mixers but the KitchenAid brand is now fit for only light duty mixing chores. As a retired restaurateur and executive chef having home kitchens in both the US and Switzerland, I take healthy food preparation, quality products, and Internet vendor track records seriously. -Ed
