A dishwasher should be able to wash dishes without the whole prewash drama. After all that is the main purpose of a dishwasher is for the person to be able to scrape off the main chunks of food and load the dishes into the dishwasher for total washing and sanitation.
I use to think it had to do with the quality of the dishwasher and the spray levels on how well the dishes would clean. To a point this is very true as when I got my Bosch dishwasher my dishes did get a lot more cleaned without so much of the prewashing time involved but I still had to get the majority of the crème sauces out of the pots and ensure that the end of the spatulas that I used to cook with had the stuck on food off of it. Recently I was given a chance to try two competing products and give my honest experience on them. One is on Cascade Complete and the other is on Electrasol Advanced.
What the Products Claim
Cascade Complete claims it "cleans so well
no need to prewash!" It "dissolves food and rinses clean!" It also states "with shine shield to help protect your glasses from etching".
Electrasol Advanced claims "Sparkling Power Clean and Electrasol Advanced gel is the #1 Recommended Brand and more leading dishwasher brands recommend Electrasol products than any other brand". Those brands are: "Whirlpool, Bosch, Maytag, Kitchenaide and GE". "Electrosol Advanced Gel removes the toughest food stains from your dishes for a Sparkling Power Clean the first time, every time." It also states that is has "etch protector and that with regular use, etch-protector helps prevent permanent etching".
The Testing and Comparisons
Both are in a gel liquid form. For all my tests I used the "Regular" setting on my dishwasher, which is the lowest wash setting.
Test One using Cascade Complete: The meal for the dishes consisted of Eggs Benedict which included poached eggs in my poacher that generally has to be scrubbed to get the remaining egg particles out; hollandaise sauce; and 2 frying pans consisting of fried potatoes and Canadian bacon.
Out of habit, I almost started to scrub the egg stuff off but I caught myself in time and loaded the plates with the remaining egg yolk; the poacher that always had to be scrubbed before placing in the dishwasher; a pot that had the remains of hollandaise sauce and 2 frying pans containing with one containing the remains of the hash browns and the other had the remains of Canadian Bacon.
To be honest, I did not feel confident that this was going to come out all nice and clean without me having to scrub at least the poacher and the pot that had held the hollandaise sauce.
Upon completion of the dishwasher cycle, I opened my dishwasher door to not only find everything was sparkling clean including my poacher and cooking spatulas. Nothing had any food remnants left. My glasses were sparkling with no type of white residue or water spots and everything including my plastic ware was dry and did not need the usual hand towel drying when putting away.
I am shocked, as I have never seen this happen before unless prescrubbing was performed.
Test Two Using Electrasol Advanced: The meal consisted of Baked Chicken, Rosemary Potatoes served in chunks in casserole dish with spices and baked in oven; and the vegetable was Crème Peas. I was tempted to scrub the potato casserole dish since if I did not there would be stuck on little pieces of potato as well as my cooking spatulas. However, I discarded my temptation and proceeded to turn the dishwasher on.
After it was done, most everything was clean except for the potato casserole dish and the cooking spatulas. Electrosol failed to remove the stuck on food. The glassware was okay but did not have that sparkling glittering look that Cascade glasses provided.
I put the offending dirty ware back into the dishwasher to await companions that evening.
Test Three Using Cascade Complete: Tonights assemble included the dirty ware that did not get cleaned from the Electrasol Advanced and dinner consisted of Swiss Steak which included gravy; mashed potatoes and corn on the cob. I had a hard time just putting my bake ware into the dishwasher without my rescrub to get the burnt remains off and my pot I had made my gravy in. I just left whatever remains and put in the dishwasher thinking I could not get lucky again.
Unbelievable! Cascade Complete got every bit of evidence of food off everything including the leftover dirty ware that Electrasol failed to get off. I am in love already. Using Cascade Complete not only saves time but saves my hands and my nails from brutal scrubbing.
Test Four Using Electrasol: Tonight was a more simple night and we had Macaroni and Cheese with Ground Beef and seasonings. I made artichokes in the steamer.
So for dishes, I had the pot with the macaroni and cheese, which was very cheesy and normally needs to be scrubbed and the steamer plastic bowl and lid along with cooking utensils.
Upon completion, I was really hoping Electrasol would pull through to give Cascade some competition some run for the money. However, once again I pulled out dirty ware that had to be washed again with the next load and that dirty ware consisted of the pot that housed the macaroni and cheese and the spatulas that cooked it.
I am now really getting disappointed with Electrasol as I see that it is just like all the others that I had tried in the past and that means all the dishes needed prescrubbing before using it.
However, now I am spoiled and feel that even if Cascade Complete cost a dollar or two more that if it saved my hands and nails that was money well spent as I would spend that much in nail and hand products trying to recover my damage hands.
Test Five Using Electrosol: Tonight we had BBQ pork riblets with baked potatoes and corn on the cob. This was a simple dinner for Electrosol to wash, as the only item that would need scrubbing is the pan I used for the pork riblets.
Well unfortunately I just opened my dishwasher for a look and once again the Electrasol Advanced failed me. The bake ware that I used for the riblets still had stuck food as well as my cooking utensils. The glassware was fine but still not as sparkly as Cascade Complete.
So the dirty ware must be run through the dishwasher again by using Cascade Complete or by scrubbing it first.
My Analysis
There is no competition. Cascade Complete is the winner by a long shot and has earned a place in my cabinets. When a dishwasher cleaner finally comes out with a product that actually cleans the food without scrubbing or washing first and makes glassware have a sparkling shine, they have won my loyalty.
Thank you Cascade Complete. I have waited a long time for you and hope you never change.
