Pros: Good graphics and scenery for racing through
Cons: Frustrating turning controls
The Bottom Line: The controls are horrible and do not work very well at all making this game not worth playing in the end even though the graphics are great.

At first I thought this game was going to be fun because the graphics were colorful and a change of scenery from other racing games, although they are similar in scenery to the Mario racing games. After playing (actually, I would only call it attempting to play) a few races I found it utterly frustrating and a poorly done game in terms of the controls.
The controls are involve you holding the Wii remote sideways and tilting it side to side to turn as if using a steering wheel. You have to hold down the 2 button to go, which makes my thumb tired after a while, but is not any different than playing most other racing games. The problem, though, is that the sideways turning aspect does not work very well. I have played other Wii racing games in which it uses the Wii remote like this for turning, so I have gotten used to this way of driving a little, so the problem is not just that it takes time to get use to the controls. The thing is that sometimes the turning was unresponsive, but other times it was too responsive. For example, at first I thought I was trying to hard to make turns, so I started not tilting it much, but half the time it worked fine by tilting only a little, however sometimes it did not turn as I wanted at all or it would still turn to much. Basically even after trying the cup several times I never was able to feel in control of the kart.
Another thing that made this game frustrating is that when you got near the sides you would go up them and flip out of control. Also, if you got stuck going the wrong way the turning seemed to entirely stop working.
The only thing I liked about this game besides the graphics was that whenever you got stuck too long it automatically puts you back going the right way.
The background music for the game is pretty repetitive and not all that interesting. While you are racing, though, you can barely hear it and mostly you just hear the karts engines. The sound effects when you collect stars and get question mark bubbles are decent and make a good break from the sound monotony of the karts engines.
Overall this game is not worth playing unless you are super good at racing with the sideways control of the Wii remote, which I thought I was a at least decent at before playing this particular racing game. It also may be a little easier if you have experience driving for real as it is more of a steering wheel racing than regular racing video game controls, however, I did not get the feeling that the controls worked realistically like a steering wheel at all in the end. Note: I have never driven a real car or played many arcade racing games, so I cannot really say if the controls are like using a steering wheel, but they at least try to use that type of motion.
