When my parents traveled with the family, they always had the AAA guide books and maps so as an adult, it was only natural that I would join AAA for my family. While we still order the books and maps, we also often use the online services.
I have found that using AAA online is great. Ordering those books and maps is a snap and saves gas because otherwise I would have to drive about 20 miles to pick up the books at the physical store.
I have also often used AAA to make reservations and/or to check out hotels at a destination. I like the way that the site allows you to compare more than one hotel at the same time to narrow down where I might want my family to stay. I can find out quickly if the hotels have perks we like such as indoor swimming pools, complimentary breakfast, and family suites.
I have never had any problems with any reservations made online through AAA. A few times in the past with reservations made elsewhere I had trouble checking in or trouble with a room being sub-standard (like one without working air conditioning on a hot summer day) but never with reservations made through AAA online.
We've also bought attraction tickets and never had any problem.
If you like a planned trip, the TripTik feature is another great perk on the website.
