Where Dance is a Sport and Parenthood Qualifies for the Olympics.... Puckmuggers Sports W/O
Jul 29 '05
The Bottom Line The bottom line isn't in great shape, due to number nine.
A challenge can be a good thing, especially when presented in the manner that fellow epinionator puckmugger puts forth via the Second Annual Sports Challenge Write-off. This is my entry for Part One.
=====*****=====
1. What are your favorite sports to watch on television?
I like to watch ice skating and gymnastics, but my favorite is Mariner baseball (especially when they are winning). Truth be told it is much harder for me to "get into" a game aired on TV versus the live action.
2. How often do you watch sports on television?
Not very often, as I don't have much time for television. However I do watch the occasional Mariner Baseball game, and an occasional gymnastic or ice skating session. Oh... and as a resident of Washington State, if not attending live, I usually watch the "Apple Cup" (the annual football battle between the University of Washington Huskies and the Washington State University Cougars).
3. What are your favorite sports to watch live?
Dance! Yes I consider it a sport. My daughters are both competitive dancers. Did you know that most competitive dancers spend hours every week in classes and conditioning? I also enjoy watching the fastpitch softball games that my daughters play. Additionally our family enjoys Mariner or Aquasox baseball games and the occasional UW softball games. Oh, I can't forget to mention that the spirit at local High School or college games is rather contagious!
4. How many live sporting events do you typically attend annually?
Remembering that I consider Dance to be a sport, let's just say that I really rack up the hours annually! Also...
At a minimum we go to two Mariner Baseball games and two Aquasox Baseball games. Add to this the countless local High School sport games, the softball games my daughters are in, and the handful of college games.
5. What organized team sports have you ever participated in previously?
I have participated in swimming, softball, soccer, and I suppose you could count the annual powderpuff football game (during High School). However I don't consider myself to be a true athlete. Let's just say that sports are not where my god-given talent is. But I am a fantastic fan/spectator!
6. What organized individual sports have you participated in previously?
Swimming.
7. What pick-up sports have you participated in previously?
I am a carpool queen; I pick-up the girls from multitudes of sports events every week. Not the answer you wanted, well okay then: Volleyball, Basketball, Tetherball, Softball......
8. What sports or outdoor activities do you currently participate in?
Mountain Biking, Nature Hikes, Swimming, Softball.....
9. How often?
Varies, but certainly not often enough!
10. Is there any sport that you wish you could participate in now?
It would be nice to participate in organized softball, rather than being a spectator. I also think it would be great to be able to exhibit floor gymnastics and to ice skate like the pros!
11. Whats keeping you from doing it?
Lack of skill, family commitments and health issues.
12. If your fairy godmother was going to give you all the skill and a job in pro sports, what sport would you play?
Women's Professional Fastpitch
13. What team and position (if relevant)?
Since it would take a fairy godmother for this to exist, she would create a new team, The Seattle Express, and this team would -of course- be excellent! The position would vary between pitching and 1st base, but never catcher (can't stand the gear).
14. What beer would you promote as a sports celebrity? (OK, that was just to make certain Bruguru, Marty and Fuche participate)
I would break tradition and promote Snapple.
15. What brand would you promote?
Ringor
16. Do you have any sports heroes? Who are they and why are they your heros?
I would have to say Kelly "Girl" Sutton, a race car driver who has relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (http://www.kellygirlsutton.com/).
17. If you could invent a new sport, no matter how absurd, what would it be?
Don't need to invent one, it already exists: parenthood!
