Praise to the Braves

The Bottom Line Let's go Chicago!!
At the beginning of the summer, I agreed to enter the Mets vs. Braves Write Off. Unfortunately, the Mets lost. But, since I live in Chicago, I wasn't so upset about the World Series result. Regardless, here is my poem, saluting the Braves. Congrats for winning the division.
Once upon a baseball season, I made a bet without any reason,
I hoped the Mets would be able to shove the Braves right out the door.
While I watched, 'twas not exciting, and many papers I got to writing,
And this write-off was inviting; inviting to believe once more.
"You gotta believe," I muttered, "I know we can win once more.
Just this once, nothing more."
Ah, distinctly I remember, it was in the bleak September.
And each injured New York member writhing upon the sodden floor.
Painfully, I saw the morrow; Mets fans wallowing in sorrow.
Handkerchiefs we had to borrow; borrow for the disheartening score.
For the team from Atlanta named the Braves had set the score.
Title holders forevermore.
And the dirty, sad uncertain drop or every innning's curtain
Thrilled me-- filled me with fantastic terrors I had never felt before.
So that now to still the beating of my heart, I stood repeating,
"Right now the Braves might be leading, the Mets have come back before.
Sure, now the Braves might be leading, the Mets have come back before.
It's a lead, nothing more."
Presently my soul grew stronger; hesitating then no longer,
"Mets!" Cheered I, "Come on guys, win the division, I implore."
But the fact is, they were napping, and the Braves came strongly rapping,
And they won it, clapping, clapping, to the stadium's loud roar.
Then I knew the Mets had lost it, handing it to the Braves once more.
Braves win, forevermore.
Okay, so it's late and I'm tired. I hope my entry is good enough. Thanks to Edgar Allan Poe for helping me with this. :-)
