Tanzania is a wonderful country, but be careful to selecting your tour operator!

Tanzania Adventures - We loved it (Reply to this comment)
by cathinka

In March 2007 we spent 11 days holiday in Tanzania organized by Tanzania Adventures (3 days safari and 8 days leisure at Zanzibar). We couldn’t have been more satisfied. All of what we’d been promises turned out to be just how we wanted it, if not better. On every occasion when in need of help they followed up and assisted us.

On the safari part we had a wonderful guide called Mr Everest. As well as bringing lunch to the safaris, he was extremely knowledgeable regarding parks (lake Manyara and Ngorogoro Crater) and animals, and could tell us a lot about the wildlife. I believe we got to see all there is to see, and amongst others a lion with its prey. We stayed at Kirurumu tented lodge - the most spectacular lodge overlooking Lake Manyara, the Rift floor and Mt. Losimingori.

Thereafter we were brought to the airport in private car (as on the whole safari) and flown to Zanzibar. Again the tour operator stood ready to welcome us and drove us up to the wonderful hotel they’d booked for us up in Kendwa. One of the days we wanted to have a dinner in Stone Town (capital of Zanzibar) and all we needed was a telephone call to Ronny (Partner, Tanzania Adventures) and it was organized in a sec.

All in all - we believe we couldn’t have booked with a better tour operator and would like to highly recommend the agency.

Hi Ruthie,

My wife and I used Tanzania Adventure in Sept 06 when we found them on the internet. We were going on honeymoon and wanted to spend it on a seven-day "lodge safari". We have no problem in recommending them to you.

We flew direct to Kilimanjaro from Amsterdam with KLM - definitely the route I would recommend - and we were met on arrival at the airport. We were transfered to Rivertrees Country Inn near Arusha for an overnight stop. There were petals on the bed and a complimentary drink for us. It was there we also met our first Gekko who kept us company and kept the moths away.

During the rest of the safari we stayed at the E Unoto Retreat, the Serengeti Sopa for a few nights, and the Ngorongoro Farm House. The food, accomodation, facilities (and cheap laundry service at the Sopa) were first class. All have websites and I recommend them as being excellent.

The last night was spent after a lovely day spotting leopards in Tarangire. We were checked into the Tarangire River Camp. My wife was concerned it would be a tented camp but having paid for a lodge safari I was expecting something similar to the accomodation up to that point. She was right and I was wrong. We made our concerns known and said we did not want to stay there.

The camp is luxury as far as tented accomodation goes. Large platforms, large tents and internal loo and shower. But it was not what we had wanted. After a couple of phone calls, Gibson and our guide Lucas managed to get us a room at the Tarangire Sopa, which was greatly appreciated. We paid on the credit card for the room as the itinerary booking paid for the River Camp. But an hour later the hotel manager came to our room with Lucas and said Tanzania Adventure had paid our bill and handed me back my payment slip.

Our experience that night showed that Tanzania Adventure were attentive and helpful. Not only that, but they went out of their way to help us on our day to return home.

Before leaving London our flights had been changed to KLM after Ethiopian Airlines had changed their schedule. So it meant our departure would be at night rather than early afternoon. Tanzania Adventure had already fulfilled their obligations to us, but they still booked us a room at the Airport Hotel (another good lodge) to stay in until our flight, at no cost to us.

Lucas, our driver/guide was brilliant. He was very friendly and knowledgable, had an eagle eye for things we would have missed, was extremely patient every time we asked him to stop so we could take photos or look around and he looked after us well. He even sourced us special camera batteries in Arusha when we needed a replacement! If you can get Lucas then you will be in good hands.

We would recommend Tanzania Adventure after our experience. They helped make our stay a special one, and when we return for another trip it will be their service we will use. If you want any advice or have any questions just email me at "tr.sharp@hotmail.co.uk"

Tanzania Adventure 2000 in 2007 (Reply to this comment)

Hi,

My name is Donna and in February 2007 I travelled to Tanzania and Zanzibar with my best friend Harriet. Our tour operator was Tanzania Adventure and they were fantastic!

On arrival at JRO we were met by a driver escorted us to our first lodge and when we arrived we were greeted with fresh mango juice and cool face cloths. The next morning we met our driver Otis who was our guide on our journey through to the Serengeti. We had our own jeep for just the 2 or us and Otis, who took us everywhere looked after us fantastically. We were safe, happy and well catered for during our entire trip which made our visit to this truly amazing country even more memorable. When we flew to Zanzibar, we were escorted to the airstrip and waved off so we didn't have to do a thing. Likewise at the other end we were met at the airport where our Zanzibar guide Ramadan met us and again looked after us every step of the way. Nothing was any trouble and he organised any and all of our day trips completely dependant on where we wanted to go and what we wanted to do.

Our guides made sure that our trip was not only full of the most wonderful sights nature can provide, but we came home with fond memories of the great people of Tanzania who looked after us while we were there.

Ronny Bender who I organised the trip with over the internet - despite the dodgy name - was entirely genuine, excellent to deal with and responded promptly to any emails, made sure we met him in Arusha and assured us that if we had any problems - which we didn't - that he was only a phone call away.

Perhaps Tanzania Adventure have grown up - perhaps they have responded to past problems and addressed them, perhaps they have some new staff, I don't know, but what I do know is that when I visit Tanzania again - which I most certainly will - I will travel with Tanzania Adventure!
