Poor old Donald... he got the women going as much as Colin Firth in his day (didn't he? I'm just guessing!)

Dave... (Reply to this comment)

...Donald Sutherland makes a less caustic Mr Bennett. His relationship with Mrs Bennett is far more affectionate than the BBC version, which was a nice touch. No wet shirt scene here though, doubtless disappointing many female viewers!!
Is there any particular reason why I would want to see Donald Sutherland in a wet shirt? Hugh Jackman, maybe...

Great #1 (Reply to this comment)
by carstairs38
That's my choice for #1 movie of the year as well. Absolutely amazing, and I'm a huge fan of the books as well.
I haven't seen some of your other choices, but I was also glad to see Dick and Jane. I enjoyed that movie so much more then I thought I would.

Um... not a great fan of subtitled movies I'm afraid. Will watch one very infrequently... but don't make a habit of it!

Ah... sorry Dean, I did see it but wasn't that impressed by it. It seems that it was a love it or mildly unimpressed by it movie!! :-)
Apologies,

I've only seen Sahara on this list, wow. Makes an interesting list, but too bad you have no subtitled movies.

Now Cap'n,
Please tell me the only reason Batman Begins isn't on here is because you haven't seen it?
Dean.

You must rate as you see fit, I'm not bothered about it.

Gosh.
Come off it. It's just a series of links to your old reviews from 2005 that you're worried won't make any cash. I'm sure a lot of people do that on here now, but there's no need to make a pompous statement about it. Take the SH on the chin and move on.

Steve - sorry, but I liked it!!
Dr.K_P - glad you agree on the no.1! Did you mean "Batman Begins"? It wasn't bad but didn't particularly impress me, just missed out.
Liz - I actually didn't realise how many films I'd seen that were released last year till I started preparing this review! Would still have put it at more than 2, though!! :-D
Marie - ah, that explains the sudden rush of page views on my Nanny McPhee review!!
Andrew - nothing is impossible, old chap. If I were really that cynical, why bother with more than 10 films? I think I explained my reasons for the placements and that I haven't been all that impressed with 2005's batch of films, which is why some that I only rated 3 stars are mentioned here. Trouble is, having more than 10 in my top ten lists has become something of a tradition, I think people would be disappointed if I changed now. Oh, and finally, I find that my vew of some films changes slightly after time or re-watching, differing slightly from my original impression having just seen the film. Still, thanks for the comment.

I can see how people can get carried away and can't whittle down choices for a top ten list like this. But when you describe films as 'never moving out of second gear' I find it hard to believe you couldn't have chosen a few to take out. Including a film you thought wasn't up to scratch simply because its fans like it is also a strange move. It's almost as though you've cynically dashed off a list of films you didn't think were to bad in order to pick up a ton of non-member hits. But that would be impossible, surely.

I've seen most of the movies on your list, though there are still some I want to see.
Nanny McPhee wasn't released over here until the end of January..and it didn't make it to the theater here until a week ago. I'm just glad it came so I could see it - I was thinking I was going to have to wait and rent it.

Im using the American release date for movies to see which were released in 2005
Excellent, excellent. You will be assimilated.
Anyway, I've only seen one of your choices -- Serenity, which would be my #1 choice for film of the year, but only because it was one of two 2005 releases I saw. Being a sea cap'n means I don't get to the theatre as often as I'd like.

I agree THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA is a classic and definately deserves the number one spot.
I watched this movie in the Stratford Showcase Cinema (East London) on 4/1/06. Now I am thinking of purchasing this movie as a DVD and writing a review on it.
Good quality review as usual!
Peace.
(BTW: You reckon Batman & Robin would make it on your Top Ten list?)
