The Anime Outsider W/O!

Mar 24 '06 (Updated Dec 23 '06)

The Bottom Line Your teacher always said it's good to try new things.

Never watched a lick of anime in your life? Do you think people who watch anime are weird? Do you have a secret desire to see some anime but everyone else around you thinks it’s weird?

Well, now you have an excuse.

I thought of this W/O while lying semi-comatose on my bed after finishing my 17th Inuyasha review.

I’m not trying to start a movement to bring anime to the masses (or the part of the masses that don’t watch anime at least), I just thought it would be fun for people who have never experienced anime, or have had very little experience with it, to take a look see into what you might not normally get into.

So are there requirements?

Well, if you’ve seen anime before and have a habit of reviewing it, it’s not like I’m going to bar you from this W/O, though as you might see from the title, I’m trying to get people who aren’t as familiar with the genre to dip their toes in the pool. I also think it would be interesting to have some reviews out there from those unfamiliar with anime, that way if someone else is considering looking into anime, they can read a review by a person with a similar outside experience, as opposed to someone like me who makes references to things only people on the inside (so to speak) might understand.

So it’s really simple. Find anime. Watch it. Review it. (and let me know about it!)

– Some Ways To Find Anime –
~You can skip over to your local rental store and browse the shelves for something you think you might like.
~ If you’re feeling really bold, Best Buy, Sam Goody, and Amazon.com have good selections of anime.
~ You could ask someone you already know who likes anime for a good title.
~ Heck, you can even ask me and I’ll throw you a random title, maybe even something I haven’t seen because if you wanna get technical, I’m still sort of new when it comes to diversity of anime viewed.
~ You could be super-bold and look through the list that Epinions has (look in under the Genre for “Japanimation”) and pick a title at random.

Whatever way you choose, pick your title and go for it. You don’t have to watch the whole series of something, naturally. Unless of course, you want to. One last thing before I go - there is no closing date on this W/O. You can join in 2 years from now for all I care. Who am I to give you a time limit on doing something like this? So whenever you feel adventurous, by all means, look me and my write-off up.

Hehe.

Enjoy!
