Scapp70's Top 50 Favorite Things To Do In Walt Disney World (40-31)
Nov 26 '06 (Updated May 22 '07)
The Bottom Line Part 2 - From 40 through to 31
My family and I have been visiting the Walt Disney World Resorts for many years, getting in at least one visit in per year, but averaging a little more than that. On each visit we try to do at least one thing new that we've never done before because there's so much to see and do there. We have acquired favorites along the way, and I believe this list will represent what most of these things are.
This list is our top fifty and with this first installment Here, I've included the second list of ten, from 40-31 of the fifty.
40. Rock 'N' Roller Coaster is located in Disney Studios. This roller coaster made Disney history as the first ride or attraction that takes the rider upside down. While that's great and all, also remember that the roller coaster is all indoors, and all the while you rock out to a classic (yet altered) Aerosmith song called Love in a Roller Coaster (altered from their hit Love in an Elevator). Sometimes the song changes, you may hear Sweet Emotion, Dude Looks Like A Lady or my personal favorite Back in the Saddle. The cars that you travel in looks like an ultra-stretched limo, and you are to zip way across town in LA to get to the concert from the studio where the attraction begins. Since you have to be there in such a hurry, the limo zips you from 0 to 60mph in under three seconds. It's an amazing feeling of power and excitement, probably the most entertaining roller coaster that I've been on.
39. Spotting Hidden Mickeys has never really crossed my mind as something to do, but my five year old son has developed a strange unnatural talent for spotting these Mickey shapes. So now it's become tradition with the Scapp family. Since the Haunted Mansion is my son's favorite, we have found the most hidden Mickey's there, about three off the top of my head.
38. Disney at Home was a store located in the Disney Marketplace that was dedicated to home items to buy such as bath, kitchen, living room, bedroom stuff with a Mickey head or a Disney logo branded into it. Admittedly, this store is purely for Disney-addicts as I'm sure it would nauseate the ones that were dragged in and mayhap even the lukewarm Disney fan. There was always something new to look forward to on every trip we took, and even though it never looks as good in your own house, it was still a must do stop each and every vacation to WDW. Unfortunately, Disney World has done away with our beloved store and condensed it into something called Mickey's Pantry. It's not as big, not as varied and no where near as fun. Boo hoo.
37. The Enchanted Tiki, Tiki Room is one of those attractions that get ignored by me and mine for some reason, perhaps the location? Who knows the reason; because when we do remember we enjoy it very much. When Tiki had gotten retooled to include some of the more famous birds like Iago from Aladdin or Zazu from the animated blockbuster The Lion King, I wasn't too pleased, but the show had grown on me over a bit of time. The Tiki Room was one of Walt Disney's ideas, and the first attraction to feature the audio-animatronic technology, so it was sort of sacrilege to tinker with a real Walt idea. It's a dark room full of exotic birds that wake up and do the show for the Disney guests with singing and telling jokes. Now with Iago and Zazu, these characters tell the old birds to get hip and more current because their show has grown stale. The Tiki Goddess of Disaster is what saves it for me, she's very dark except for her lighted blood red eyes, and I like the way she scares the kids.
36. 'OHana's at the Polynesian Resort for the character breakfast. This character breakfast is a bit different from the others. First off, the staff bring you a big metal pot of breakfast foods, scrambee eggs, sausage, bacon, waffles, breakfast potatoes, fruit, biscuits and if you want some pancakes, they'll run over to Kona Cafe for you and get you some pancakes. The decor is inspired by the South Seas with bamboo and wood furnishings and lots of green tropical plants and trees. The characters that come and see you include Mickey Mouse, Goofy, Lilo, and Chip and Dale.
35. Innoventions is a place that I think to myself to skip every trip, but somehow when we make it over there, we always have a great time. Innoventions is located in EPCOT in two locations across from each other. There's something for just about everyone to do. There is a free arcade room, and there is an exhibit where guests can experience some of the latest trends in Home Theater. Guests can experience the Segway hands on as well. One Innoventions experience I'll never forget is an exhibit called Where's the Fire?, where it takes volunteers of children to teach them about escaping the house in case of a fire. My son when he was two had participated with about six other children. He was a little shy and unsure, but the staff at Disney made sure that everyone was comfortable and participated.
34. The All-Star Movies Resort Pool is my favorite pool of all of the resorts that I had experienced. The pool is super heated and is tremendous. My favorite time to go in is at night, in the center of the pool is Mickey's Sorcerer character, and it seems as if he's commanding the waves to toss about as he does in the film Fantasia. Although, I'm not such a big fan of staying in the All Star resorts, the pool is another story; I only have fond memories of this place.
33. Fantasmic is really a spectacle to witness. It is located in the Disney Studios, and is usually performed as soon as the park closes. The Magic Kingdom and EPCOT both have their firework shows when the lights go down, so Disney Studios has Fantasmic. Guests are seated in an arena that seats 6,500 people and also fits an additional 2,500 standing. It's basically a story told through images projected on a huge wave of water, and music and dialogue is heard on the speakers. It's a story of good vs. evil with many villains and heroes that have appeared throughout Disney history. At the finale, there are fireworks and a myriad of parade floats in the water that house millions and billions of Disney characters. It's lots of fun, it costs money and the big downside is the line outside to get in. Of course you have to get their early, because even though you had purchased your tickets already, you don't want to be one of the ones left standing. That's the one downside that keeps me from going back year after year.
32. The Great Movie Ride is also located inside the Disney MGM Studios. The attraction itself is housed inside a replica of the Grauman's Chinese Theatre, and the ride puts you in the movies with audio-animatronic doubles of such Hollywood icons as John Wayne, James Cagney, Alien, Sigourney Weaver, Dorothy, Toto, the Wicked Witch of the West and many more.
31. Mickey's Christmas Party at the Magic Kingdom is a must if you happen to be down there for the holiday season. It runs about a month long in the Nov/Dec months, and you need to have purchased tickets to the party and enter the park slightly before the park closes to the public. The crowd is limited to a smaller number and the rides are open to the invited, party crashers will not be able to go on any rides without their Christmas paper bracelets. The mood changes as only Christmas music is heard through out the park, free hot chocolate and cookies are served at places like the Columbia Harbour House and Star Light Cafe, make sure you eat earlier, because these places that used to serve food are only giving out cookies and cocoa now. There are places to take a souvenir picture and mailed to you all free of charge. At the end of the night, the Christmas parade climaxes with Santa and his sleigh laughing his "Ho, Ho Ho" as he makes his way through the snow. Yes, that's right - it's snowing in Orlando. You and yours will have a magical night.
