Pros: Comes in a tube so it is easy to use.
Cons: The cat that needs it has to be forced to eat it.
The Bottom Line: When grooming a cat, hairball treatment should be a part of it. Especially if it is a long haired cat.

I have just been into the 'Cat' category and checked out grooming. Everything there apart from 'Hairball' treatment.
This is just as important as choosing the right products for grooming. Actually I think it is more important and would love to be able to write it under 'Cat Grooming'.
I wanted to write this review to try to save some pet owners money. My 2 cats are 14 and 10 years old. When I lived in the old house I regularly gave them St. Aubrey Hairball Remedy in malt flavor. We moved about a year ago and I don't know why, but I forgot to give it to the cats.
Just before Christmas my white fluff ball, called Y.T. started throwing up. It happened one day, then fine the next. I thought he was okay, then we had a whole day when he couldn't keep anything down. I telephoned my vet and was able to get him in the following day.
A complete check up and I was told. Nothing the matter with him and the reminder, "Is he getting a Hairball treatment". Stupid me says "No", but I groom him every day. Well, $65 lighter I came home with a tube of Laxatone and thinking, this is an expensive Christmas present for my boys.
How easy is it to use.
The Tuna flavor is to get the cat's attention. Well Q.T. who is fine, came over and loved it. I didn't get a chance to measure it out. He was licking the tube and wanted more. This was to help Y.T. and when I got near to him with the tube he ran away. The directions on the box state:
Place a small amount of Laxatone on animal's nose to stimulate taste interest. I did so and he licked it off.
The following day he was waiting for me, and hid before I could catch him. I had to securely hold him to get the hairball treatment on his nose. Q.T. walked up to me and took his straight from the tube.
Which product do I and the cat's prefer.
To be honest I really don't think it matters whether you purchase the Hairball remedy by St. Aubrey, at around 5 bucks from Wal-mart, or the Laxatone from the vet, at $7.10.
The Hairball remedy is for prevention as well as remedy.
It contains similar ingredients to the more expensive brand.
What really matters is the fact that cat's groom themselves, and especially long haired cats, will get hairballs from time to time. I try to brush them both on a regular basis when they both shed really badly.
Final thoughts.
Our animals are our best friends and we have to take care of them. They can't tell us the reason why they are sick. I was so concerned about cleaning my new carpets, that I didn't sit down and take the time to think. If you have a cat remember grooming means more than just brushing. Go the whole 9 yards and have a preventative schedule too.
Thank you for taking the time to read.
