Does Anybody (in CC) really know what.... Does Anybody Really Care???

May 05 '09 (Updated Jul 31 '09)

The Bottom Line Let's see if anyone from Community Care takes care of these (even though they had already been reported).

Well the review title was supposed to be a bit like Chicago's song.

But what I'm talking about here is Community Care and whether they really have time (or whether they really care) about abuse on the site.  I know for a fact that abuse reports have been filed over the years regarding a number of reviews which absolutely violate site policy, yet nothing has been done.   I'm sure that there's LOTS of abuse reports which are filed, but how do the members ever find out the results?

When we file an abuse report,
don't we have a right to know what actions will/have been taken or that actions will NOT be taken and why they won't be acted upon? If we don't ever hear back on an abuse report we've filed then the perception can be that CC just doesn't care about the site policies.  Sometimes it seems as if they pick and choose which ones they act upon.

Take a look at Epinions Site Policies:

Please choose the appropriate form below for the abuse that you would like to report. Please keep a few things in mind before you submit an abuse report:
Epinions will only take action if a member's actions violate the Epinions Site Usage Policy.

Detailed Site Usage Policy When submitting content to Epinions whether in the form of reviews, editorials, comments, message board posts, ratings or your profile page the following are inappropriate:
Posting material containing profanity, vulgarity, hate speech or threats of violence Including any pornographic content (This includes any sexually explicit pictures.)

IT SHOULD NOT MATTER WHEN THE REVIEW WAS PUBLISHED.  If it's reported and is against the Site Usage Policy, shouldn't Epinions take action if they are made aware of it?  Take the following example.  Can anyone from Community Care honestly tell me that this might be somehow grandfathered into some old policy?  This should be removed IMMEDIATELY.  OK, so I was just made aware of it.  Should it make a difference? This is clearly pornographic content no matter what your definition of pornographic is!

Update 7-31-09  Yeah!!!! CC finally took the porno off the site!!!
Thought I would check after reading a post on the message boards about abuse reports.  Now back to the rest of the review!

(profanity, many occasions of the "F" word)

Oh this one is good. The reviewer actually had a disclaimer about the language used in his review.  Does that mean we can use that language if we feel it's necessary for the review and write a disclaimer first??????

I continue to be amazed ......

Maybe the Site rules should be changed and they should become "unwritten" rules. Then there might be a good case for taking some action.  :-)
