Imagine using your television set to show your vacation, wedding or baby photos! And, for all of you teachers, how incredible will it be to download photographs of a particular subject you are teaching, and make it all come to life as you display them as a slide show on the television set!
The Microsoft TV Photo Viewer is a device that will allow you to present a “slide show” of your very own photos or those downloaded from the internet. There are digital cameras that can do this, but at the cost of $125, it is well worth it to be able to use this device for the purpose of enjoying your cherished photos.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
The Microsoft TV Photo Viewer connects to your TV., and will allow you to view digital pictures from your camera, the internet a CD ROM or scanner. The software that comes with this unit will make it easy for you to put your downloaded pictures onto the floppy disk. I have only used this item with my computer, however, if you do not have a computer, you may still view pictures from a floppy disk that has a TV Photo Viewer Album on it or digital pictures in 640x480 JPEG format.
THE PHOTO VIEWER
The device itself looks somewhat like a silver cable box. It is not overly complicated at all. There is the power, back forward, auto and eject buttons. You will also have a compact remote control with the same buttons.
The forward button of the remote control is pressed in order to display the next picture.
The back button will allow you to display the previous picture.
Display will simply continue to advance each photo at a steady pace automatically. (This feature will automatically stop by pressing any button on the remote control.)
I prefer to use the forward feature to show and view the pictures so that I can be in control of the length of time that the picture stays on the screen.
Rotate will allow you to move the picture at 90degree intervals.
You will find this remote control is simple to use in presenting your photos.
GETTING STARTED
I must admit that my husband set up this TV PHOTO VIEWER. I can tell you that it took him no time at all. It is simply a matter of using the video “IN” jack of your TV. and the Video “Out” jack of your photo viewer. If your TV. does not have a video “IN” jack, you may purchase a powered RF modulator. Again, I don’t know what that is, but it sounds a lot like something Radio Shack would certainly have. The TV viewer software will guide you through saving your photos on the disk. The floppy disk is inserted into the unit. That is it! You may begin viewing your pictures on your very own TV.! If you, like myself, are not comfortable with the notion of jacks, floppy disks, input, output and such technical terms, the manual that accompanies this item is organized in easy to read step by step instructions.
FEATURES
One feature that I love is the ability to add captions to your photos as they appear on the screen. The software will allow you to type in a caption. You will actually see the photo on the computer as you are typing your caption. Using the caption feature will, though, decrease the size of the image. The print is clear and easy to read with a white color.
COST
This is where it gets interesting. This item sells at Comp USA for $150. Add on tax and make it $162 in NY. It sells on Amazon.com for about $125 with no tax. Even with the 2 day shipping that I opted for, I wound up paying $138. Needless to say, I highly recommend ordering this TV viewer from Amazon.com.
USES
My husband used this item in the classroom to teach about the moon. He was able to choose the photos he wanted from the internet. He talked briefly about the photo, clicked the remote control and the next photo immediately fills the screen. He said that his students were extremely motivated by this teaching tool.
After scanning your photos and downloading onto a floppy disk, imagine being able to view your vacation photos on your TV. You may not want to subject too many friends and family to your vacation photos, but when those images fill your TV. screen, it really gives you a close-up and brilliant look at your photos. The size of the pictures are the size and proportions of any image you would ordinarily see on your TV. It is pretty fun to be on TV.!!
Why not create a precious baby picture slide show with just your Microsoft TV Viewer and Television set. That one disk will hold a lifetime of memories that can be viewed in an exciting manner. The same is true of wedding photos, retirement parties, just about any occasion.
This has been an investment that is so worth while. I feel if you are an educator or one with a sentimental side, you’ll love viewing your photos on the televisions with your Microsoft TV Photo Viewer.
