I have been an occasional browser and buyer of products sold on UBid for over a year. I would estimate that I have completed 6-8 transactions in that time, a range of things from an LCD monitor to a in-shower Radio/CD Player (refurbished). While I don't have a lot of complaints about the UBid service per se, you must be careful about the products you purchase on their site.
Stay away from Manufacturer Refurbished, Refurbished and Used merchandise, or consider with extreme caution.
Remember, with any on-line eCommerce operation that is run to actually make money, customer service resources are going to be strapped. So you shouldn't be expecting a lot of hand holding after the sale. That said, I haven't had to deal with customer service at UBid yet, because I have not had a problem (well one, but that was a product).
Things I Like
I like the information architecture of the site and the general functionality. Descriptions of products are usually pretty good and the site functions well, at least with my cable connection. The Bid Butler functionality is nice. In all, it is a good functional site, nothing spectacular to look at but I actually prefer it to eBay.
Things that Annoy Me
That they sometimes ship the product in its original retail box. Not that I like to preserve or save these things, but it just trashes everything and exposes the product to more potential for damage. Because of their security, logging on to My Page is a bit of a pain at times. Not too much else that I personally can complain about.
Take my advice from above: If you can get a good deal on a new product with a full warranty, then I day go for it. But the product is what is important here; as long as the underlying functionality is sound, selection is what is key. No, this is not eBay, but I find it more focused in terms of selection and still fairly comprehensive.
