Suncom Ok other than Contract Renewal

Pros: Good coverage, good plan choices and rates.
Cons: After first year, contract auto-renews and keeps you on the hook endlessly.
The Bottom Line: Suncom coverage and service are tops BUT the contracts automatically renew after the first year 'hooking' the consumer without notice for another year.

I bought my first two phones and contracts through Suncom about two and one half years ago. After the annual contract commitment was up the contract automatically went to month-to-month coverage. To cancel service only 30days notification was needed. After reading other's comments on this site I called Suncom to check on my third and most recent phone that I have through them. Sure enough after the first year it automatically renewed for another full year with the associated penalties for early termination, etc. I wrote a letter requesting that this phone be changed to month-to-month and complained that I was not informed at the time of my purchase of this newly implemented rule/trick. My fault admittedly. Today I got the call, they are 'willing' to change the contract to month-to-month BUT if I make any plan changes I will have to agree to another one year contract. Normally with Suncom you can change rate plans at will which is a great thing in case you travel nationally at times. The Contract thing is ludicrous. By doing me, a three year customer this favor, they just lost me and my three phones. As I told them, if you treat your customers right you don't need automatically renewing hidden word contracts to keep them. The only way to avoid the auto annual renewal is to call them BEFORE the year is up and cancel. They would apparently rather lose a customer than offer month-to-month service. Suncom's coverage is tops.
