I am doing the happy dance (-: Most of my Christmas shopping is done. I got some wonderful music boxes that cost up to $70 each and only paid $10 per music box. I combined some online coupons with the Spring Sale at Amazon to get some toys that I couldnt buy around here and at really good prices. A nice box of bathroom products arrived on my doorstep this week. The value was $15, and I got the items for under $10 including the UPS shipping.
How do I pull that off?
As a single parent, I cant afford to throw extra dollars out when I dont have to. But, I like nice things and like to buy stuff for the kids. With a little extra time and effort, I pay about 50 to 75 percent on listed prices. Though it takes a little work, its well worth that small investment on my part.
Deal of the Day (www.dealofday.com) is my favorite site for finding ways to get better prices online. Ive been a member since 1999 and have saved hundreds of dollars. Though the deals are not as hot as the early days when I could get $10 off $10 at Pets.com (which went under) and pay a small shipping fee, I still manage to get some really good products and at really good prices.
You dont have to pay to use Deal of Day, and you dont even have to sign up. Just go to the home page and check out the deals. If you want to post under the forums or want email about special deals, then get a free membership. They dont spam out the box, and the deals they send by email are worth looking at.
Here is how it works:
Just go to the home page. Youll see the newest deals. All you have to do is click and buy to get the deals. Deals include things like $5 off a $25 order, 20% off the order, or free shipping. Its as simple as that though you can save more if you dig deeper at the site.
Lets say you have a product in mind. You want to buy make-up. Look to the left and click on Beauty. Youll get all the active deals at the site in that category.
Maybe you want to place an order with a particular store and want a deal. Type in the name of the online store in the search space top left. Youll see all the deals for that store.
If you just like to keep an eye out for the hottest deals in general, then click at the top to Forums. Members post up all the deals they find online and at stores in the community. My favorite space is the Internet and Retail Deals section. That is listed second. Below that youll find Freebies. You can find neat free stuff online too. Another forum space is available if you want to buy something and want help finding a deal. Someone helped me get a wonderful deal on the WalkAbouts (about half what I found to start with).
Is it really worth the time to check in?
You bet. I have most of my Christmas shopping done and have really nice gifts that I would not be able to buy in one pop in December. My favorite deal was the San Francisco Music Box Company special. They have 70 % off on holiday music boxes. Combined with a coupon for 20% off, I got 9 boxes at under $10 each and some of those originally ran $70 each. It was such a wonderful deal that I went back and used the free ship coupon and made a second order and got some gifts for my mom too.
How about day-to-day stuff?
Although I keep an eye out for gifts, I also get many things for the house too. I saw a coupon for $5 off $10 at Sav-on drugs and got feminine products and candy bars this week. The CCB coupon gave me free conditioner with each shampoo. The prices are high at CCB, but I love the products. When I can buy the shampoo and get the conditioner free, then Im ready to buy.
I check Deal of Day almost every day. Sometimes I dont see anything I need or want. Often I do see things that I cant pass up. Sometimes I learn about new places to shop and find products that I didnt know about. Sometimes I just find deals on things I always buy like Dry Idea or toilet paper.
There are a lot of deal sites, but I find Deal of Day to be the easiest to use and with the most current deals. It seems to be geared more toward the female shopper and the shopper with kids. If you are younger or like high tech items, then you may like Fat Wallet better at www.fatwallet.com. See my review on FW at http://www.epinions.com/content_69848305284 Thats my second favorite, but it is pretty cut throat and they have deals that are scamming companies sometimes.
The only thing that I would caution about is the email service. It is the pitts. I have an account, and I used that here for a safe box. It worked maybe 1/3 of the time. If you emailed and didn't hear back on that account, then do know that it is really bad.
