Pros: seemingly cheaply priced
Cons: misleading termination policy, poor customer service, high long distance charges etc....
The Bottom Line: I would never recommend doing business with Suncom even if I had to do without a cell phone.

| mrhva's Full Review: SunCom Mobile Phone Service in Newport News/Norfol... |
I have found SunCom to be one of the worst cellular companies I've dealt with. I can't believe ATT partners with them.Sure their rates are affordable(at first). Upon making a few long distance calls while roaming we found out those charges were very high in our opinion. We found many areas where the phone doesn't work, it just loses calls from time to time too, even in our home town, the clarity of the call is frequently staticy or unintelligible. But the worst part of doing business with SunCom for me is their termination policy. Once I met the 1 year commitment I began searching for alternative providers due to dissatisfaction. 18 months into our contract, I called and told SunCom I wished to terminate our contract in 60 days. I was informed that that was fine with them & I'd be billed $200.00 asap. I stated that their policy book reads "After the fixed term(1year) expires, this Agreement will continue from year to year until terminated by either party with up to 60 days advance notice, as specified in your service plan….Page 18: This Agreement represents the entire agreement between you and us, which may only be amended as described in this agreement." I understood the wording of this statement to indicate that I could, with 60 days notice, cancel my service after my one-year initial contract. I did not interpret this to mean that I was automatically locked into another one-year contract, nor was I informed of this possibility when my husband & I originally agreed to the initial one-year contract. Yet this is what Suncom's representatives repeat over and over. Even after finding many similar complaints on the internet and talking to the BBB, Suncom refuses to cancel our agreement without charging $200 take it or leave it.SH from Va.
