| schlewitt's Full Review: Sony SAT-T60 DIRECTV Receiver with TiVo Service |
I've had the TiVo for a little over 5 months now. I've loved the ability of watching one program, taping another, and pausing tv while I settle the kids down. What I did not expect was the unit to fail after 5 months.
The unit froze, and refused to boot up again (no mishandling!). I called Sony because it "should" have been covered under their warrantee. I was shocked to find out that they only covered the parts ... not labor. To get my TiVo fixed, they are asking that I wrap the unit up, ship it to them (I have to pay shipping), fork over $100 for labor, and wait 2-4 weeks for my unit to be returned to me. I'm not sure what type of warrantee this is! I'd rather pay for the parts, which probably runs about $3. The Sony rep told me that it was a standard manufacturer's warrantee. Apparently, I live in a parallel universe; when electronics have failed on me in the past (and I'm quite the guru on electronics), I've had them replaced at no additional charge.
If it wasn't for the warrantee, I would have been happy with the unit. This is probably my last straw with a Sony product. I don't mind getting the occasional lemon ... it happens. But stand behind your product and don't absorb costs by sticking them in supposedly covered warrantees.
