Pros: Cleans up tough stuff. Cheap.
Cons: Gritty. Added bleach.
The Bottom Line: Regular Comet is fine for a low cost cleaner. Adding bleach makes it another Ajax which I avoid.

| CyndiA's Full Review: CometMultiroom Disinfectant Cleanser With Bleach |
I dont know why Procter & Gamble put bleach in the Comet cleaner. There are two main powder cleaners, and they are Ajax and Comet. Alex has the bleach, and Comet does not. Well, Comet didnt have the bleach. Now, they have Comet with bleach, and its just like Ajax. I dont buy Ajax, and I wont be buying Comet with bleach anymore either.
If you dont know about bleach, its a cleaner that strips out everything even the color in clothes. Its most often used for washing white clothes to get them really white. It also disinfects and kills germs, so it can be used in house cleaning. The problem is that it will make white spots on whatever you are wearing if you are not careful.
I guess some people make out fine with cleaners including bleach, but I sure dont. When I mopped the floor in the bathroom with a bleach based product, I dropped the towels on the floor and then had spotted towels. Those were my good towels too. When I use a scrub brush, it throws little dots of cleaner on my clothes. Then, I have polka dots of white on my shirt and pants. The last time I used bleach cleaner on the kitchen floor, I managed to walk on that and now have a pair of navy blue socks with white soles.
After ruining towels and several outfits, I decided that bleach cleaners were not for me. The only other option I could think of would be to clean the house naked. Neighbors in a small town will talk, so that didnt seem like a good idea.
There are all kinds of cleaners on the market that dont have bleach, but Comet is one of the cheapest. You get a good-sized can for a dollar or less. Though its not my favorite cleaner, I usually have a can in the cabinet. Its just one of those items I throw in the cartprobably because my mom always did.
The good thing about Comet is that it has abrasives. It will clean up stuff that other cleaners wont clean. If I have a chili stain on the kitchen cabinet, Comet will take care of it. Its also good in the toilet for the ring and the tub for scum deposits.
Another good use for Comet is to soak up and disguise dog droppings or cat throw up. I get the stomach churns just thinking about those occasional messes. When I pour Comet on such problems and let them dry a bit, then I can use a broom and sweep up the mess while mentally humming The Wheels on the Bus. Generally, this keeps me from gagging and carrying on like I tend to do.
The down side on Comet is that it is gritty. Unless you really rinse good, then you have sandy feeling surfaces. I never use Comet on the floor, because it takes the finish off and leaves the floor feeling like the beach. The toilet isnt a problem, since thats not a place where you dive in, but the tub has to be really wet down to get all the grit off if you use Comet.
The regular Comet is fine, and I do keep that on hand. Josephine the Plumber pitched Comet eons ago, and it does clean. But, Im careful about where and how I use it. The new Comet with bleach is another story. I accidentally bought a can thinking I had the old standard Comet. The first thing I managed to do was to back into the lip of the cabinet and get a white streak on my behind. So much for those sweat pants. If I want a powder cleaner with bleach, then Ill buy Ajax. When I buy Comet, I want it to be bleach free.
