30 great days or do you need a new Operating System...no problem

The Bottom Line: This is my second Dell.First rate company with first rate policies.Would buy a third Dell in a heartbeat.

I recieved my Dell Dimension 4100 a few days ago and would like to share a few thoughts about the computer.
It is a P3 1000,256 megs of PC133 ram,40 gig 7200 harddrive,32 meg DDR Nvidia GeForce 2 GTS 4x video card,soundblaster live digital sound card.The chipset on the motherboard sets the harddrive to ATA 100 which means you do not have to add a controller card.ATA 100 makes the drive spin very rapidially giving you extremely fast read and writes to the drive.This is a plus.
It was ordered and shipped to my door in 6 days with free shipping.I also recieved a year of Msn internet.
The first night was the usual discovery of what your new computer can do.Dell as many others loads their systems with a whole lot of software.One being the Resolution Assistant a program that will assist you in determing a problem and submit it to tech support.Apparently they can remotely download a patch to fix an issue.A little scary.
I disabled all of them while on the phone to tech support.
I wasn`t quite sure in Windows ME what should run in the background.When I recieved the computer I ran a Norton benchmark which stated it was running at 476.Thats quite a bit of speed.With all the unnecessary programs not running in the background it jumped to 518.That made me smile.
The next day was trying to network both my computers together.It worked....somewhat....One day the computers would see each other the next day they didn`t.
I reinstalled the network software over and over.It was time for a decision....back to Windows 98.I know Windows 98
and I can work with Windows 98.
Format and clean install.Benchmark jumps to 529.I smile.
The video card is awesome.I have not done a benchmark on the frame rates but it just fees powerful.They sent a game with the computer MDK2...said I was doing 94 fps.All I know
is that the whole system feels powerful,the video and sound are great,tech support has been extremely helpful and there are a whole lot of tools provided with the computer to assist you with problems.
I probably sound like a commercial for Dell.It is my second Dell system.They have made me happy.Enjoy your systems friends.
POSTSCRIPT....for 30 days you are treated like I have not experienced with another company..I called customer support
and asked them IF it would be possible to have Windows 2000 as an operating system instead of Windows ME....NO problem...recieved Windows 2000 today and am sending them back ME...Plus I will get the support needed with an OS that will be new to me.There was NO charge for this exchange.
I also changed the soundcard to a Turtle Beach Santacruz and sprung for the Harmon Kardon THX speakers.The cd was exchanged for a 16x DVD...It did bump the price about $280
but....bottom line...does everthing I need at this time in a computer.
For 30 days....things have been fantastic...
