don't expect desktop pc features

Pros: can connect laptop to 5.1 speakers
will improve laptop sound
Cons: will not give you same features and sound performance as sound blaster pro 5.1
The Bottom Line: If you want to hook 5.1 speakers to your laptop through USB, it may be good for you. If you want adjustable effects, don't buy

I returned this unit after 5 days because:
Most important: I bought it for the EAX digital effects (reverb, chorus, etc.) , however special settings are not continuously adjustable and there are less of them. There's only 14 effects presets. There's been no software updates for 9 months on this product. Then, I found a freeware product called Dee2 which attaches to winamp and does effects.
The sound quality does not compare to a desktop pc with a soundblaster 5.1
P.S. I bought this at a circuit city. A lot of the boxes looked opened. This seems to be a high-return item.
