Pros: Great customer service, network, huge voice mail box, referral program, price of features Cons: limited availability, choice of phones, automatic contract renewal, 2 plans to choose from
A little update. I know I just wrote the review, and I am generally happy with the service. But that's given that I've signed up under previous terms and rate plan. If I were to sign up now with SunCom I wouldn't do it and do not recommend it. ...
Pros: Unlimited Night/Weekends with free LD (not available for new customers) Cons: Poor suburban coverage, lousy customer service, technologically inferior to some competitors.
I will add to this very soon but believe you'll find this helpful.
I have been a cellular subscriber since the mid-1980s and have experienced many of the trials and tribulations of the evolving industry over the years. In my humble opinion,...
Pros: Affordable phones Cons: Don't work in our area
I dealt with SunCom two years ago and still am aggreviated that they are allowed to sell in our area. The service is really horrible and you could be talking to someone in a store, walk to the other side of the store and be cut off.
Pros: Good eager Personnel Cons: Didn't explain contract rollover provision.
Read the contract and listen carefully when the sales person explains the terms to you. I have 3 phones from Suncom which I use in my business. When I purchased the plan they had very competitive rates in the Augusta GA market but there was a clause in...
Pros: Affordable Cons: Customer service is terrible, incompetent staff, and poor equipment.
My problems started when I first began service in September 2001. I had AT&T Service on the west coast, and after moving to the east coast, I was told I needed to change to Suncom as AT&T could not be a monopoly. I was fine with it, even after I...
Back in October my husband and I decided we ought to get cell phones, and we wanted a shared minutes plan. We got a reasonable one through Suncom here in NC. We should have done our research first.
Pros: none...sorry Cons: contract roll-over;no access to minute usage; not customer-friendly
Okay--I've been online for a while now and have seen so many unflattering reviews of SunCom service that it pains me to add my name to the growing list of those who've been "had." Yes, it's the automatic roll-over clause that got me. I actually dropped...
Pros: Good Area Cons: Automatic renewal of service. No night and weekend minutes. Bad customer service.
I signed up for the a one year service term with SunCom. What they didn't explain was that you are automatically renewed every year for the REST OF YOUR FREAKIN' LIFE!!!!!!! In order to end the contract you must give "...30 days written notification...
Pros: Pricing is great compared to other providers for valuable anytime minutes! Cons: Customer service is HORRIBLE! Contract automatically renews without notice to customer.
Every time I call customer service I am made to feel like I am a nuisance and that my business is not valued. They completely ignore (not received is the term they use) requests. Ever time you request something of them they tell you to go to SunCom store...
Pros: Very calm, very professional. Sapped the fight right out of me! Cons: Not customer service's fault, but they should get a better handle on their billing.
I wrote previously to tell of SunCom's shutting off of our service with no notice, and after receiving three bills which showed a zero balance. After reviewing two revised bills which were faxed to us after the shutoff (showing a balance of $519!), I ...
Pros: the un plan would be cool if the service ever actually worked but it doesnt. Cons: terrible customer service, dont contact expecting help. you can't ever get a signal anywhere.
If you want a cell phone that actually gets service indoors - suncom is not for you. If you want a cell phone service that actually gets service outdoors - suncom is not for you. If you want customer service people that are polite and helpful - ...
Pros: Good customer service.
Great completed call ratio. Cons: Poor deal for those who travel at all.
My wife and I have been using Suncom for close to two years now and have been very satisfied with the customer service we have received. There have been a two specific occasions we needed their assistance, one of which was not the fault of Suncom at...
Pros: The old AT&T network is good
How they do business they won't be around long Cons: Terrible Customer Care
No consideration of past customer/payment history
I switched to AT&T wireless from sprint in 2002 because of the lousy service (reception and customer care) and was reasonably happy with the service received. Although not pleased with the bill all of the time and some occasional dropped calls, I was ...
Pros: Price Cons: Contracts are at best, misleading.
I will never again use SunCom or recommend them to anyone, due to the following:
In October, 2000, I agreed to a one year contract for cellular service with SunCom. In April, 2002, I contacted SunCom to cancel my contract, since I am unhappy with...
Pros: Reasonable reception, neat phones Cons: Worthless customer service, Phantom roaming charges, reception cuts out at times
Suncom is a company that really has the potential to be good. Unfortunately, they seem to be determined to give their customers headaches and aggrivate them at a whim. I'm not sure how this business model came to be accepted, but I can assure you that...
Pros: Great service, Few problems, Good billing system and they apply payments promptly. Cons: Only offer 1 year contracts that automatically renew WITHOUT NOTICE!
I have three Suncom phones on three different contracts. I have referred several people to Suncom due to their great service.
One person I referred began having problems with her phone (not Suncom's fault). She found out that the phone was...
Pros: Rate Plan Cons: Customer service lacking, small variety of phone, network is constantly down
I have been a Suncom customer since September 2002. I switched to Suncom from Sprint because of how costly it was to be a Sprint customer, Suncom seemed to offer the best rate plan at the time (Unplan which included roaming minutes), and I had read that ...
Pros: Got the phone for free, (well after a lengthy fight for a promised rebate) Cons: Customer Service is TERRIBLE, Bills are never right if you use over 300-400 minutes.
SunCom... where do I begin. My local coverage area is Memphis, TN but I didn't think it would be fair to put this under the Memphis subtitle since it is the national customer service people that are so bad.
Pros: USA plan allows coverage in 4000 cities. Great for vacation/travel Cons: Please read above for the cons. No need to repeat.
I'll keep this short and to the point: My wife and I got a suncom plan 18 months ago after careful consideration, and we felt that it was the best plan for the money. After all, the salesman knocked off 10 dollars per month when we showed him a better ...
Pros: Good coverage, good plan choices and rates. Cons: After first year, contract auto-renews and keeps you on the hook endlessly.
I bought my first two phones and contracts through Suncom about two and one half years ago. After the annual contract commitment was up the contract automatically went to month-to-month coverage. To cancel service only 30days notification was needed....
My wife and I enrolled with Suncom December of 2000 for price and "local" coverage area from the Carbondale, Illinois region. From the very first billing statement, we had to contact customer service for "mistakes". These mistakes were eventually...
Pros: I like Harry's music Cons: probably won't buy any more of his CD's because of Suncom
We signed up with Suncom when they were fairly new and took advantage of a good deal they were offering. You get what you pay for. Customer service is a joke with these guys. I set up our service over the phone and said yes to nights and weekends, ...
Pros: At least the people are friendly... Cons: EVERYTHING!
I recently moved to Wisconsin from San Francisco, and changed to SunCom from AT&T Wireless, as my experience with AT&T's service had been amazing (never had signal problems) and they said that SunCom was their associated service in the Midwest. Right...
Pros: Local , OK Phone service Cons: Rude, Sneaky, Tricky, unethical
I have 3 Suncom phones, 2 share minutes for my spouse and I, 1 is for my adult child. My kid had used the phone for over a year and it was time to move on to another plan. She stopped using the phone over a month ago. When I got around to closing the...
Pros: good choice of calling plans Cons: erratic and inconsistent signal, dropped calls, poor customer service
I've been a Suncom customer for 5 years and spent quite a bit of money with them. In August my phone was stolen so I headed into the local retail store to take care of business. They sold me a new Panasonic for 100 bucks and charged me 35 dollars to shut ...
Pros: inexpensive Cons: misleading contract, ability to change contract provisions at any time, adds charges at will
We live in Charlottesville, VA and thought Suncom would be a good choice. We travel up to Washington, DC quite a bit and needed a flexible plan. When we signed up for the plan we were told we could expand our plan to include AT&T service area for a...
Pros: Monthly cost (only after a heated discussion with a customer service rep). Cons: Automatic renewal of contract. Customer service is extremely bad. Poor communication service.
I just got off the phone with their so called customer service. Once again, I am so angry that it is absolutely unbelievable. I have yet to call and get a logical answer to any question. I am going into my 3rd year with this company only because I ...
Pros: None whatsoever Cons: Poor coverage, horrible and rude reps, deceptive business practices and terrible service
I switched from SunCom several months ago after four years with them because every time I called them to upgrade my minutes they told me that no better policy was available -- even though I saw programs with five and six times the minute plans advertised ...
Pros: I can't think of any Cons: poor customer service, poor reception from my home
July 2001, I added a phone to my brothers account for my use.. his phone worked perfectly, mine would drop calls from my home...... anywhere else in town, it would work okay.
Suncom changed the phone once, still had the same problem.
...
Pros: Come on now. Are you kidding me.
NONE!!!!!!! Cons: EVERYTHING
I did not choose SunCom on my own.....In my area AT&T wireless customers had to go to SunCom for some idiotic reason. I have received numerous postcards saying how my switch from AT&T to SunCom would be hassle free and should run smoothly. Not so much ...
Pros: Basic issues will likely be dealt with. Cons: Agents are not well informed, or trained.
We choose our cell provider based upon their ability to offer International Roaming (using our phone in Europe). I realize we're in the minority of customers, but SunCom's poor customer service in this regard may be indicative of other deficiencies. ...
Pros: none Cons: billing mistakes that are never resolved. Overcharging, poor customer service.
My best friend had a plan with AT&T which would end in Nov, prior to the end of the contract, suncom took over the plan. She spoke with a suncom rep in Oct and confirmed the contract would end mid-Nov and how many more payments were due. She made her ...
Pros: None Cons: They ignore you when you complain.
SUNCOM SUCKS - NEVER USE SUNCOM
The MadOne was forced by Suncom's actions to create the website www.whysuncomsucks.com. Don't let them ignore you, join the SLA and fight the evil giant. Suncom will suck you in and won't let you free unless you...
tin cans with string would be better by mikeh789 ,Nov 15 '06
Pros: free phone with 20 minutes of battery life. Cons: I have a problem with every service and function, but mostly customer service.
I was interested in the un-plan from suncom, where, as long as you are in the south, everything is unlimited, I had some problems porting my #, and ended up past the 14 day cancellation period before I realized what I had done. I have had 2 customer service reps hangup on me. All calls I make drop. When I am out of range, and people call me, they complain about the voicemail not picking up, and when i call other suncom customers, I get my own voicemail promt about 20 percent of the time. death and military are the only ways to get out of your service agreement, so think before you get stuck. as consumers, we should not have to pay $200 to cancel amateur service. I have 1 month left, and I can't wait.
Pros: Great plans. Cons: The service stinks along with there rude customer service employees.
They have great plans, but there service and customer service stinks. They do not know product, they make claims that are untrue and you better hope you do not have a problem with your equipment or they will try to stick you with a new contract before they will help. I am leaving after two years of service, very poor service.
Phones that just stop working by gwenbellamy ,Sep 29 '06
Pros: Small and neat everything I needed was in this phone that would be the v220 Cons: I can't afford to buy a new one. customer service doesn't care
The phones worked great for the first year. Then all of the sudden the ear piece goes not letting you hear, only if you hold the phone a certain way. Now it doesn't matter how you hold the phone there is no sound coming, out only if you put it on speakerphone. You can't have conversation unless the entire room hear. I cant upgrade because I had just upgrade to this phone a year ago. I have been a customer with suncom for years. Never had a problem that they couldn't solve until I got this phone. Now I can't upgrade for a new phone I can't afford to purchase one. So what do one do customer service in stores or over the phone are useless. Not only I'm having these problems but my sister got the same phone a week later she is having the exact same problem and a close friend of ours. By the I'm talking about the v220 motorola. I can't to cancel my contract when its up but if I can't use my phone when I need it what is the purpose of having one. Very upset customer!
Stay far far away from SUNCOM! by bottecchia_dt1 ,Aug 10 '05
Pros: Cheap you get what you pay for Cons: You name it
First my phone stopped working but I have a 1 year warranty so I should be fine.Wrong I was told if the phone has one tiny scratch on it the warranty is void.Pathetic how can anyone use a phone for 5 months and not have one scratch on it.The phone has to be in new condition or the warranty is void.
Customer service is sad also I was told the first time to go to a local store and I would receive a replacement phone of course it was a different story when I got there.
The coverage is terrible you will drop calls all the time. You can not move and talk with Suncom you will drop calls no matter where you are.
Goodbye AT&T, Hello SunCom... by dataskatt ,May 19 '05
Pros: None... Cons: Bad customer service, bad coverage
My AT&T plan has been taken over by SunCom, and I absolutely hate them. Customer service is horrible, both locally, and if you call the 800 number. Stay away from them! My phone is constantly dropping calls, or having no bars at all, and I mean in the city! It is so frustrating! Suncom will only change out my phone for one that works if I sign a new 2 year contract (Like that's going to happen!). I'm stuck in my contract, with a service/phone that doesn't work, unless I want to pay the $200 fee to cancel. I have actually filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau against them. Don't believe all the ads! When my contract is up, I will go to a "pay as you go" service. I will never get sucked into another contract. I just don't use enough minutes to justify it.
BEWARE!! SunCom's employees will assure you that you can cancel your contract at any time after the initial one year contract has been fulfilled, but that is not true. They will automatically renew your contract each year and you must give them 30 days written notice to cancel or they will charge you (or try to charge you) a $200 early cancellation fee. They assured me that I could cancel anytime but now that I have actually cancelled (because of lousy coverage and terrible customer service) they are trying to collect the $200, which I WON'T pay!! They are spending well over the $200 trying to collect this money that they will never collect from me. I believe their automatic renewal is completely unethical and especially since their customer service is so lousy.
UnPlan is all that keeps Suncom in business by dottie37615 ,Oct 26 '04
Pros: UnPlan Cons: to many to list in 15 words
I have been a Suncom customer since 1999. I know you are thinking I am an idiot, but the only reason I have stuck with them is the Unplan. I successfully told Sprint to shove it, and have not had to pay them in years, however, Suncom has increased my bill over the last few years. Beware what the customer service reps tell you. READ YOUR CONTRACT FOR YOURSELF! Also, don't waste your money on the insurance. I was told when I originally signed up for insurance they would replace my phone "no questions asked" When it came time for me to use the insurance it was like an inquisition and they denied my claim since I told them the damage was probably normal wear. The only damage they will cover is if you accidentially drop the phone or something similar.
Pros: None that we've seen. Cons: Customer service is neither customer-oriented, nor do they provide any actual service.
Having been with other major cellular carriers (Verizon, AT&T) while living in other parts of the U.S., we recently moved into the southeast U.S. and transferred our service to SunCom. For every day since that time, we have wished that we had picked any other carrier and waited anxiously for our contract to expire so that we could be done with this poorly-run, money-sucking excuse for a company. Spurious billing charges which elicit stonewalling responses from customer service reps, misleading coverage maps, poor value and competitiveness in their service plans are all things that we've experienced first-hand during our time as SunCom customers. I can't think of a single positive experience that we've had with SunCom. Please learn from our mistake -- pick any other cellular carrier than SunCom. You'll be glad that you did.
Pros: DECENT PLANS AT DECENT RATES Cons: CUSTOMER SERVICE AGENTS AND BILLING ISSUES
ALL I HAVE TO SAY IS: THE CUSTOMER SERVICE IS LOUSY AND MOST OF THE TIME THE CUSTOMER SERVICE AGENTS ARE QUITE DEMEANING....AND ACT AS IF U ARE ASKING FOR SOMETHING FREE. I HAVE NEVER QUITE RECEIVED THAT SORT OF CUSTOMER SERVICE FROM A WIRELESS PROVIDER..I AM VERY UNHAPPY..AND CAN'T WAIT FOR MY CONTRACT TO END..IF I WAIT TIL THEN.
