Speaker replacement is SIMPLE!
Nov 10 '00
Ok.. If you want to replace speakers, it takes about 5 minutes on an easy car, 10 on a hard one. All cars use a basic standard way of speaker installation, and a select few require harnesses which you can buy right where you buy the speakers.
To install the back speakers, you can usually get to it through the trunk. It will be screwed in by probably four screws. Once you unscrew the screws, you should be able to pull it right out. Pull off the two wires connected to the speaker (or the harness if there is one) and then put the replacement speakers in place. Connect the two wires (or if your car uses a harness, you will have to buy an adapter matched to your car make, model, and year). Connect these wires, place the speaker in, screw in the screws (sometimes it wont fit exact and only two or three screws will fit, but don't worry).
To install the front speakers, you will be able to get to them one of two ways. If they are in the door there will be a grill in front of the speakers that you need to pry off. Pry off the grill with a flat head screwdriver. There are screws holding in the speaker to the door, unscrew these. This should allow the speaker to hang loose so you can pull it out. Pull off the wires and follow the similar instructions for installing back speakers.
If the front speakers are not in the door (ie. directly in front of the driver/passenger side person) you will be able to reach these one of two ways. Either you will have a panel to unscrew (usually on the drivers side) or you will have to reach around and underneath the dashboard (there will be a gap). Unscrew these screws, they will probably be bolts. Once you do this, the speaker will come loose, and you will be able to pull it out, and follow the directions above.
Good luck!
