| tracyjenkins's Full Review: Philips TiVo PTV 300 Digital Recorder |
I have 2 30-hour Tivo's and honestly don't know how I got along without them! I absolutely recommend this product!
My only complaint has to do with this size fo the drive. Thirty hours isn't enough! The drive holds a lot of programming, but I find that I get anxious about my Tivo filling up and feel driven to watch TV so that I can make more room for Tivo to catch more shows. A vicious circle, I know! Since I have DirecTV and several movie channels I have a lot of good stuff to record. My Tivo is often hovering around full capacity so if I get busy and can't watch TV for a day or 2, I start to lose shows. If, heaven forbid, I should go on vacation, managing my Tivo can be difficult. Having more hours to play with would be wonderful.
There is a 60-hour unit available now, but it is priced above $600--more than I want to spend. A more economical route to getting more capacity is to upgrade the 30-hour unit using the easy-to-follow instructions posted in the "underground" section of the Tivo forum on AVSforums. Go to the Tivo webpage (www.tivo.com) and follow the link to AVSforums for more information on upgrading.
